Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomGround floor was boarded-up as ‘under construction’ (which was a bit of a shock!), but the actual hotel was really very nice
Great location near ‘Rose St’ (forget the Royal Mile!). Room was clean, spacious, very practical & comfortable.

FinlandThere were no toppers on beds. Even with tjick proper toppers beds this hard would not be healthy for smaller persons. - Sleeping was like lying on concrete. The same with pillows. At least they were flat.
Quietness and location were best.

United KingdomFour lights did not work in the room and as I needed to work I did not have the time to ring down for replacements. Secondly no one was on the desk on arrival and I waited ten minutes. Minor point but bottled water in the room would have been nice.
The central location was amazing, the room was large, comfortable and well decorated. Frederick House Hotel is an amazingly grand period building and overall a few touches away from excellent.

United KingdomHotel is very old - decor and furniture is not too nice to look at (though perfectly functional). No power plugs beside the bed which seemed extremely odd and disappointing.
Fantastic location, very central and seconds from Princes Street. The breakfast across the road was absolutely phenomenal and such a great add-on vs the usual hotel fare.

United KingdomThe room looked out on the back of the hotel so not much to see except other buildings. However, being in the centre of a large city that was not unexpected.
Lovely single room on the ground floor. It was warm and comfortable and had tea/coffee making facilities. Perfect for a one night stay. The ensuite was a good side with the use of a bath and an in bath shower. It's nice to have the choice.

ItalyThere was something in the sink drain, some remnants of something but was not a big deal. The only little thing I'd adjust was that my room didn't have an electric socket near the bed, but it was not a big deal
The italian receptionist was super kind upon my arrival. I had a beautiful time at Frederik House. The bed was amazing and there were plenty of pillows to choose! I'd definitely would recommend it! And while in Edinburgh in the future I'd love to come back here. The position is perfect both for visiting the city and for going to Portobello beach via bus, it's close to the station and near a lively street. The breakfast included in my stay was served on the other side of the road was amazing as well, the Rabble bistrot is beautiful and the staff super friendly. Loved the combo with the hotel.

SpainNot a 4 stars hotel! The room was large but the size of the beds and the quality of the mattresses and bedding were terrible. The carpet smelled bad... you don't expect that from a 4 star hotel. Our room faced the street, super noisy.

SwitzerlandThe 'double' bed was way too narrow for two people and also too short for tall people. As a result, we didn't get good sleep.
Clean and large rooms with high ceilings, great location near the main street and the train station.

BelgiumThe bed was very small for a 2-person bed. I’m 1m96 and sleeping in this bed for 2 person was not nice. The carpet in the room had stains and it’s needed to be cleaned or renewed.
Very good location. Close to old and new town. Easy to take public transportation. Breakfast was across the street and was very good.
