Short and disappointing due to the room

Rooms was not at all what I expected from booking. Walked into a dated room, which was a bit of a surprise as expected something more modern based on the pictures. I stayed in room 21. Only in it for a short time, but was very disappointing having looked forward to staying.

    Bar area very nice

Not much , being an old building the plugs are in strange positions in the room. There was no air conditioning, but we didn’t really need it. Parking is in public car park , but again it’s only over the road and pretty convenient, As I was parking overnight and leaving for work before 8 am it was inexpensive. So no real gripes

It has character, the restaurant food was very good , the room a good size. Staff were friendly and professional

The rooms did not reflect the lovely restaurant and public areas.

Proximity to town. Lovely restaurant. Quirky and cool. Coffee and water. Comfy bed. Good value for money.

Place is not good for people who are unable to carry bags on stair cases. We were give second floor and had to carry all the bags and it was a very very steep stair case . That is the only issue

Shower was leaking all night long, and when used it took some time for hot water to arrive. Pillows were very soft. Carpet a bit dated…

Easy to reach, close to parking. Room was clean and bed comfortable.

The smell of the room and the smell of the bathroom (we needed to leave the window open throughout our stay). The room was very shabby (we understood from previous reviews that it will be renovated soon and then I'm sure it will be lovely) . It was very overpriced, but that was always going to be the case at festival time.

The dining area was beautifully decorated and the food was delicious (we had the roast beef and the roast belly pork). Due to staying in the hotel, we were given a 20% off food voucher which made it reasonably priced. The bed was very comfortable with clean linen and lovely big fluffy towels. Good hot shower too and quite a spacious room which was generally quiet (apart from the glass bin collection at 6am!). Perfect location for us being only a half hour walk to and from Reading Festival and an easy walk into town with all its amenities. Massive carpark over the road too with plenty of spaces and the hotel give you a discount voucher for that too, which was great.

The bedrooms were tired and basic but I know they are upgrading , breakfast took forever, only one untrained server , she did. Know how to work the iPad and was slow in serving They only seem to be able to do a table at a time and my breakfast was stone cold on the plate , they were great in refunding but really for £250 as opposed to normal rates as it was a night Reading festival prices so expect it to be perfect

The bar and downstairs area restaurant were lovely so we’ll thought out and welcoming and comfortable lived the library room

Fairly basic, but adequate rooms, which have not yet been renovated in line with the other parts of the hotel.

Convenient, relatively quiet location. Better value for money than most other central Reading options at the weekend.

Alot of money was spent doing up the bar area etc but the bedrooms are lacking in decor etc plus they seem very hollow as regards noise/ sounds from adjoining rooms we could hear people in the next room talking as if they was sitting with us . Plus the stairs !!!! I'm glad we didn't have mobility issues as we was on the 2nd floor

no air con/fans in the room, (appreciate the building limits what can be done about this) the window backed onto a noisy area so couldn't keep the window open fully overnight and it was a very hot evening.

was exactly what I needed - a clean room, comfy bed, facilities to get ready for an evening out and central Reading location.

Carpet in the room is extremely dirty (basically is black) The people working/living in the building in front of my room, can perfectly look through windows. The room has curtains but they are blinders. So, if you close curtains, you must switch on the light even if it still day outside. The problem could be easily solved, installing a second pair of curtains that are a bit lighter and let light passing Unpleasant smell on the last floor stairs

The room was extremely basic. The bathroom was much the same! The hairdryer was ancient! And no anti slip mat for the shower. The only toiletries supplied were soap and body wash. We couldn't get the TV to work!

The location is great! Very central to everything. Tea, coffee, biscuits and bottles of water all supplied. Ok for a one night stay .
