How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Gents toilets in the bar could have done with a clean
Lovely feel about the place and nice decor in the bar/restaurant area. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Staff very helpful.

Bed was a bit lumpy, but still had a good sleep.
After a awful car journey, it was nice to come and stay at a calm and peaceful spot.

The strange set up whereby you could not charge drinks to the room and the bar closed at 10.15 even for residents. The unfortunate items that had not been delivered including butter for breakfast one morning.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful from reception through to check out. They even went to exceptional lengths to find some lost spectacles. The service was superb and nothing was too much trouble.

Didn't have everything available on the breakfast menu but what we had was nice and tasty.
Lovely bar and restaurant but only had breakfast as we we're eating out but the menu looked good. The room was lovely and clean and comfortable.

Shower in our particular room. Very poor water pressure. The other room we had in our party had great water pressure.
Lovely welcome and a comfortable room. Dinner was good. All the staff were helpful and attentive. It was relaxed.

Location a little remote (no shops or high street), but close enough to get to everywhere we wanted to go.
Lovely room, very comfy bed, great breakfast. Great evening meal. Big car free car park at rear of hotel. Very friendly staff.

The double bed was too soft for our liking, and the plumbing suffers from water hammer in the building (courtyard rooms). The first of 2 breakfasts was poor in terms of mix up and forgetting or orders, etc and availablity of various items, but the second breakfast made up for it.
The tasty dinner in the bistro, and good breakfast, and a family room with 1 double bed and 2 singles, which is rare to find, but essential for 2 teenage children.

Pettifers is a country pub we chose solely for its locational convenience but turned out to be much better than we expected. Well furnished and with real character, and good food much better cooked than your average country pub, provided by a very professional operation run personally by Neil. Our upgraded room - not requested but provided at no extra cost - was comfortable and well furnished and beautifully quiet. Having stayed previously at other more pretentious and expensive hotels nearby we will have no hesitation in preferring Pettifers when in the area.

Staff training reqd for breakfast shift.
The solidness of the beds, no marshmallows here, which made for a goods night sleep. Breakfasts good, ready to set you up for the day. Super friendly host Frank. The menu at night was adapted to suit my needs, it stopped me going to the restaurant down the road.

A blind on the window facing the Car Park would be useful and Private. Plenty of evidence of requiring up-dating for the 2020’s but the overall experience was good.
The ground floor room away from Reception was large and comfortable. Nice pleasant bed and the bathroom very large (disabled size). Wide choice for Breakfast - pleasantly served.

The bed was quite soft and not that comfortable but I appreciate that some people might prefer this. The bathroom is quite dated.
