The leisure facilities were okay, but maybe not what you might expect for such a highly rated hotel. A good number of the lockers in the men’s changing room were broken or able to be opened even when locked. There was an empty glass room next to the pool which looked as if it was just being used to store the odd bit of cleaning equipment and it made the place look a little unkept.

The hotel itself was nice and a good location. The outbuilding was very lovely, warm and nicely decorated for Christmas. The room was very comfortable and clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Service was very slow in the bar area 20 minutes to get a drink . I think the spa could do with a hot tub .

Had a lovely overnight stay here , we had a room overlooking the gardens even in winter it was a nice view . Used the spa facilities which was very nice and relaxing . Ate in the restaurant Sunday dinner and had breakfast next morning . Very good . Sandsend a short walk I would definitely return again .

Although the restaurant good was good it wasn’t exceptional, and we didn't think it was value for money for the evening meal. Breakfast was very good.

We were late for our spa treatment- partly our fault. We received a partial refund with no hassle.

Our bed was uncomfortable. Large bed made up from 2 smaller beds. The join created a ridge which was a passion killer when rolling over to my husband! My side sloped down and I had to sleep nearer to ridge to get an even part of the mattress. I didn't get one good nights sleep. The quality of the food was either very good or very poor. The rib eye steak was cooked to my requirements but the quality of the meat was very poor. The Thai Crab was all batter and could taste the crab. However the pork belly and the salmon was lovely. We had a glass of wine and 2 beers and the bill came to £121 including the 10% service charge on the bill. We prefer to tip if we think the meal is good. We decided to eat out for the rest of our stay. Despite the storms, we had a lovely time and discovered several very good eating places. The White House up the road is dog friendly in the bar area and big portions of home cooked food is on offer. For a special occasion, Sneaton Castle restaurant a must and we found it cheaper and better quality than the Raithwaite. Big renovations have started so I believe this place is not available for a few months.

Spent a week with our dog in the hide. Staff were great and very helpful. House keeping even put down carpet in the room for our rescue dog who has a bad knee and problems with wood flooring. Lovely grounds but not disabled friendly especially at the front of reception which are large uneven paving stones. The Spa was lovely and swimming pool a nice temperature and has a Sauna and Steam room. A jacuzzi would have been nice but would have taken up valuable room. The lockers in the ladies changing room need attention. Bathroom lovely, big shower and bath, underfloor heating. We only ate once in the restaurant.

It would have been nice to have a little fridge in the room to keep our drinks cool but apart from that, nothing else

Fabulous hotel, very attentive staff, comfortable room. We were given a room upgrade on arrival as it was my husbands birthday. Breakfast was lovely and the spa facilities were great. Very relaxing and quiet hotel, couldn’t hear any noise from other guests. Location was nice and peaceful but within easy reach of Whitby and Sandsend.

Tv channels were not working apart from 2. Seemed under Staffed for full hotel on the Saturday. Not really bothered on some occasions as to what the drinks they made from or tasted like. Closer refurbishment soon, maybe that explains 🤔

Location brilliant. Food was very well presented and tasty. Room was spacious and lovely and warm.

Decoration and furniture in room a bit beige and tired. Telly only had 6 working channels. Also no mirror near a plug. I find this in many hotels and am baffled as to how we are meant to dry our hair!!! It's a basic requirement for me.

Hotel and staff are lovely. Spa is very small only a pool, steam room. Nice breakfast. Nice relaxed hotel which I believe is undergoing a removation hopefully saying goodbye to all that beige.

The dinner menu was very restricted and extremely expensive, the choice was poor and over priced. We went out for dinner ,we went to the restaurant and decided to leave . It was the only thing that let it down. 25 quid for a beefburger.....ridiculous !

    It was lovely

Necessary ground works on road into hotel.

Beautiful grounds between Whitby and Sandsend. Outside patio area with access to gardens. Rooms well appointed with huge bathroom. Big comfortable bed with good quality linens. Staff attentive and helpful, loaned us a box of local walks.
