Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe rooms, bar and breakfast room all look a bit tired and could do with some TLC, albeit a 14th century inn. The price was quite high considering the work that could be undertaken.
The staff were very pleasant and the breakfasts were quite good.

United KingdomRestaurant not open on the night of our stay. Could hear children and people talking in the back ground until 11.45pm.
So old with so much history, helps if you are a little shorter. But a beautiful property.

United KingdomNo evening meals provided. I do not agree with their policy to remove evening meals despite their reason for doing so due to demand for eating elsewhere BUT close by there were hardly any places where we could get decent meals close by unless having to go to the city centre. There were only Chinese and Indian takeaways in the surrounding area but there is one restaurant but very expensive.
It’s a lovely 14th Century building with full of character, despite our room was in the extended part, otherwise a nice experience to have breakfast in the old part of the building.

United KingdomThe ONLY thing we didn't like were the bar prices...OUCH!
Loved the room and the facilities it offered. Plenty of tea/coffee for us in the room. Iron and ironing board as expected. Absolute bonus was the fan tucked in the wardrobe which we used as the day was very hot. We were there for a wedding and the food provided after the ceremony was delicious and the evening buffet...spectacular, so much so we took a plateful for a midnight feast ; ) Cannot comment on the breakfast as we booked a room without that option.

United KingdomI should have requested a room on a higher floor. Being on the ground floor and looking out on to the car park it was not advisable to leave the window open, and so the room was rather hot during the night.
The room was fairly spacious as was the bathroom.

United KingdomOur Executive double room was tiny. a single run down shower cubicle, tiny bed with an uncomfortable mattress. No sound proofing, the people upstairs were so noisy. If the room was an executive, I hate to think what a standard room is like. Not worth the money.

United KingdomBreakfast was only ok. We waited 45 minutes for our cooked breakfast and by the time we got it they were putting away the buffet/continental part. My eggs were not runny as requested and the flat mushroom had that much seasoning on it it was inedible.
Staff were great! Room was nice with a coffee machine and the bathroom was lovely X

United KingdomThe first time we stayed, I paid for the room up front and that was that. However this time, I was asked to put down a £50 'security deposit' on the room I had already paid for. This was apparently due to some incidents the hotel have had with people smoking in rooms and ruining mattresses. It's also had apparently always been the hotel's policy. Luckily I was in a position to do this, but: 1) I did not have to do this the first time we stayed, 2) this was not at all made clear when booking and I can't find a pre-warning of it anywhere, especially not clearly displayed when booking, 3) someone else may not be in the position to just float £50 for the weekend without it affecting their plans/holiday, 4) they're effectively holding the room to ransom, as you have already booked and finding alternative accommodation would take even more time and be more expensive at short notice, 5) I had already paid up front for the room and 6) most importantly - I didn't get to withhold my payment for the room in case it didn't meet expectations. And it did not - because there were dirty tissues and bits of plastic wrapping down the side of the bed and on the floor around the room. It wasn't cleaned properly at all, so why is it that I don't receive a £50 refund, but the hotel can ask for an EXTRA £50 deposit on a room that isn't even clean? Still waiting for the charge to be cancelled from my card and if it doesn't happen in a few days, that's going to be a fun phone call for the hotel. Everything else was ok though :) don't forget to register your car reg at reception!
This is the second time we have stayed here and booked the same 'standard double' room, however the room was twice the size and a lot better than the first one we had - maybe because we checked in earlier? The bed was the most comfy one I've stayed in at a hotel/b&b (and I've stayed in ones all over the country!) and the shower was great. Again, much better than the one in the first room we had! It was quiet, other than being next to the road but that wasn't a problem. Breakfast was lovely as before and the staff were very attentive.

United KingdomPoor cleaning regime, all bedroom door touch points were dirty. Unsecured attic hatches in bedrooms with more in corridors leading to rooms with easy access which posed risks to security and safety. Fans provided in rooms but still very hot with no aircon even to more modern wing of hotel. Shower pressure too high leading to 'flooding' of bathroom floor. Continental breakfast option very limited.
Character hotel, lovely reception and bar area. Free parking. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Excellent cooked breakfast both in terms of qualuty and quantity.
