How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

A bit chilly I the room and couldn’t figure out the heater.
Rooms were spacious and comfy. Very quiet. Had a lovely meal in the restaurant. Overlooking the sea, attentive pleasant waiter.

Dirty headboard in the double room sea view. Shower head didn't quite fit the fitting. Dusty behind TV.
Warmth, and friendliness of the staff. The history of the hotel, the size of the rooms. Tea making facilities. Grand piano.

A bit run down, peeling paint and wallpaper in places, little damp patches. I imagine in it's hay-day this was a grand and beautiful hotel but needs a refurb. I guess that's reflected in the price which was great value for the size of the suite we booked.
Huge room, lovely view, great location, friendly and helpful staff. Afternoon cream tea was delicious and great value. Good priced room for the size and view, and comfortable bed.

Check out at 12 would be nice. Otherwise perfect.
Plenty of choice for breakfast. Staff very welcoming and helpful. Fantastic sea views. A real gem. Historic architecture with well kept feature ( recently decorated?). I stay here 2/3 times a year. And I love it. Front facing great views. Rear quite (no noisy sea!). Large rooms on lower floors. Very nice people on front desk and restaurant. Helpful (and tolerant!).

One or two modern features required in 2024 were missing; the WiFi was useless and a socket with a USB phone charging outlet would have been useful. The extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy and the bathroom showed a few signs of aged fittings, but all worked well so no real issue. Mugs rather than cups would suit us better, along with a couple more milk sachets.
Victorian grandeur being maintained as well as possible. Clean and well appointed, huge room and great location. Didn't get the chance to try the hotel food on this trip but we are likely to stay again in the future.

Shortage of staff.
The staff were helpful and friendly. We were attending a party and it went well. Only one concern. The hotel was short of staff. Only one barman and he was excellent but rushed of his feet. The same for breakfast in the morning. Things were running out. Self service but we had to wait for food. Again the staff were doing there best but due to staff shortage, we were kept waiting.

Windows need cleaning in bedrooms. Decor tired, bathroom needs ripping out. Threadbare carpet on stairs. Cold plates at breakfast.
Right in front of the venue for a family event. View from the restaurant excellent. Beautiful marble staircase.

The fact that having the same room 204 last year we reported the shaving light above the bathroom not working and went back this year to find it still hadn't been repaired! Windows need replacing throughout, they were draughty and let in water when it rained!

View at the rear of the hotel was not memorable. Windows dirty from pigeon presence
Spacious room, well heated. Very good self service breakfast. Perfect location for morning run and for evening train travel. Friendly helpful staff. On road parking was not a problem, spaces available

I think some areas could do with a freshen up of paint - but its an old building and beautiful.

The location ~ it’s my fault, I thought it’s near by the train station and city center. Apparently it’s 30 mins walk from station.
The room size is very good. My room is big!
