Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing - it was all amazing.
We loved everything about our stay at The George. The Staff went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating. Our room was just incredible - very comfy bed, lovely deep bath, blackout curtains etc. Very atmospheric. And our dinner and breakfast were delicious. But really it's the staff who make it so lovely - they were all, without exception, fantastic.

United KingdomThere weren’t enough surfaces in bedroom to put things down on, i.e. no dressing table. It would be easy to get lost in the hotel as it is a bit of a maze, so it would have been helpful to have a porter show us to our room and point out features eg kettle and cups on side but tea and coffee in bottom of wardrobe - why?? No parking at hotel, steep walk up from local car park (only £2.50 for 24 hours) so drop bags off before parking. People with mobility issues should mention this when booking as lots of steep, curving stairs and very narrow passages in parts of hotel - not a problem for us.
Location is excellent. Historic building, beautifully refurbished in a quirky, sympathetic modern take on country house style. Hotel is full of narrow passages, it’s fun to explore where they lead and spot beautiful architectural features. The beds really comfortable, the water pressure excellent, lovely Ren toiletries. The staff were charming and the food at dinner terrific - the melt in the mouth chateaubriand was a particular highlight, a good breakfast offering.

United KingdomTwin room booked for our friends but double provided so they had to change rooms to a twin as requested. No fault of the hotel, but Rye council need to try to encourage visitors and tourism and open all the toilets closed for a 'Trial'!!!! They also need to arrange car parking hours so that you can park overnight without having to be out of the hotel and down to the car parks by 8.00am, absolutely ridiculous!
Most things. Food very good.

United KingdomEverything was good so nothing to “not like”. The breakfast is tasty but the menu items are standard. We ate at the hotel because we’d paid for it but there are nice breakfast spots down the street that may peak your interest if you’re a foodie.
Absolutely loved our room - especially the bathtub and interior design. Quite similar to an Artists Residence Hotel. The hotel is in a fantastic location - Rye is a small place but this hotel is right in the middle of it all. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly.

United KingdomIt was amazing, nothing we didn't like.
We came to stay for our first leap year wedding anniversary. The staff were absolutely amazing. We had booked a cosy double room but was upgraded to a Luxury double because of our special occasion. All the staff knew it was our anniversary and were very welcoming every time we were greeted. We were absolutely not expecting the upgrade and were very surprised and it made our stay. We ate in the restaurant as my mother had called to add credit to our room and the food was absolutely amazing. The breakfast was absolutely delicious too. We can't wait to visit again.

United Kingdom- staff at the restaurant were very nice , just maybe slightly understaffed at diner time? sequencing of food order and drinks didn’t quite work well. - there was a beaming light from the courtyard going into the room from a window, which couldn’t let me sleep. I mentioned that to the reception and it looks like some technical issue that night only, which is a shame, but staff was very apologetic also as other guests mentioned the same. So likely a one off issue.
- staff very lovely and professional - quality bed and linen. Very comfortable - quality products in the bathroom, which is nice - great location - well insulated room so couldn’t hear noise from courtyard just outside my room - great menu - great breakfast and decent coffee - lovely hotel in the core of town - could stay indoors all day if it were raining all the time
