Great breakfast and a great location. Not the most modern YHA, but the beds were really comfortable and you couldn't be better placed for hiking helvellyn.

small checking in time window (due to staffing on this day only) - when the closest place to 'kill time' other than hiking is like 2 miles away.

Amazing place - cheap as chips, we stayed in a landed (advertised as a tent on booking.com) great amenities - friendly staff of volunteers and stayovers... food was good quality, the location of the place is absolutely insane - plenty of walks and activities closely and VERY photogenic scenery. Due to the white noise from the river (had rained a lot) we slept for ten hours straight it was so comfortable - and bear in mind we stayed in April outside.

The road leading to the hostel is treacherous for small, low cars. Parking was slightly problematic when the hostel was full. Food was quite expensive. No food available if you were a late arrival - had to go to local pub, which also closed early, but they were very kind and made us sandwiches to take away. Kitchen could do with an update.

Location is perfect for exploring Helvelyn. Beautifully located hostel - sound of gushing water nearby was really soothing. Really friendly and helpful staff. Updated toilets and showers nicely finished. Crisp clean bed linen and warm duvets for cold nights. Good to have a private, family room. Loved the board games! One lovely staff member brought his own game in for us to try. Top bloke! Have stayed before - this was our second visit - would come again.

If you don't have a car taxis won't take you to the hostel due to bad road. The place they drop you you must walk over a mile to reach your destination. Wi-fi was poor.

The location for walkers is perfect. You're right in nature I mean in the morning I opened my window and watched and listened to water running from the mountain. The staff is very friendly and helpful , and the facilities are good. In the self service kitchen there's everything you need, you need to bring your own coffee or tea though if you like to get up very early. Breakfast 07 till 09 am.

A road to the site is rugged and sat navigation coordinates not precise (have to drive about 1km along the road).

Immaculate clean facilities, friendly staff and good location for hiking.

Showers could have beeen slightly bigger, there was no where to hang your clothes without them getting wet. Also there didn’t quite seem to be enough seating downstairs for all of the guests.

The Staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the weather what walks might be good with children etc. and the shared facilities were clean, bathrooms were also of a high standard. It was good location down a very long remote track but it was a lovely spot with great views.

The hostel is accessible by car but the track is very long and rough. The bar didn't have the local beer which it claimed to have. The toilets, basins & showers are mixed sex - the upstairs washbasin areas being open to the corridor. It was quite unnerving getting washed in that situation.

Lovely peaceful location near Glenridding. Good price for a 'twin room' which was quite big and actually had 3 sets of bunks, but only two of us in it. Drying room is a great facility in YHA hostels, if you've been out in the rain or have washed some clothes. I liked the option to buy breakfast & dinner from the hostel although I mainly used the self-catering kitchen. Excellent walking opportunities all around. We enjoyed a boat trip from Glenridding, including the option to disembark for a while for a walk.

The road and signage to the location. Thought we were going wrong as the road looked unpassable at times so assumed it couldnt be the correct way. We really loved the place but would be put off returning due to the risk of vehicle damaged.

Staff, food and beds were fantastic. Far better than we expected

I was expecting to see lots of old/contemporary books, was looking forward to reading, we used to always do this in the the YHA book corner. Couldn't find any. But didnt ask either.

    Nothing I didn't like

A lovely hostel with everything you need. Great location although the last part of road was a bit rough. Good value and paying the extra for breakfast well worth the tenner. Staff were friendly and the beer on the bar was cracking. We had an evening meal which was lovely and very welcome on a wet cold evening. Shower facilities lovely and the whole hostel was kept clean. My friend and I had a room to ourselves. Will definitely be returning

In my opinion everything was very well done, just keep it up.

The YHA although an older building was clean, light and updated to a very good standard. The room was warm, bunk beds comfortable with cosy duvets. The food ( we had an evening meal and full English breakfast) was very well done and good value for money. Couldn’t fault anything.

The road up from Glenridding was awful, full of large potholes. But that isn’t part of the youth hostel of course. But it would have been nice of them to warn us about the very poor road leading up to them. We wished we’d had a 4x4, instead of our little Corsa. A word of warning from the youth hostel would have been nice, as they were aware of the road, travelling it every day…

It was refurbished, very clean. Fantastic location for walkers.

The road up to the property was very rough. Would have preferred separate toilet facilities for men and women.

The location was incredible, liked twin beds in room rather than bunks. Kitchen well stocked.
