Hotel Las Leyendas, hotel in Avila

Only 4 minutes' walk from Ávila Cathedral, Hotel Las Leyendas is set in the old town. It is a charming and sympathetically converted manor house that dates back to the 16th century.

For a budget hotel it was excellent. We had a generously appointed room in a quiet part of the hotel. It was annexed to an excellent restaurant with direct access. A short walk provided access to the old wall town. Secure garage parking was within 100 meters. I was particularly impressed by the grab rails affording security when using the over bath shower. Sadly lacking in other hotels I have used. Not exceptional but more than satisfactory. I wouldn’t hesitate to return.

FAQs about hotels in Avila

A Place to Lift the Soul

When viewed against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains, Ávila is truly a spectacular sight. Its fully intact walls rise majestically from a hill, and the many semi-circular towers and 9 gates give it added character. Begun in the 11th century, these incredible fortifications are the symbol of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed city.

Partly built into the walls are the rather fortress-like cathedral and the Convent of Saint Teresa, erected in honour of the saint whose childhood was spent in a house on the same spot. Her relics are here, making it a popular pilgrimage spot. The city’s biggest festival is also in her honour and includes a colourful parade, fireworks and fights in the bullring.

Teresa entered the Incarnation Convent in Ávila, but found herself at odds with the practices, so founded a new monastery: the Convent of Saint Joseph. Of the city’s other religious structures, the Royal Monastery of Saint Thomas is particularly of note as it contains the tomb of Don Juan, son of King Fernando.

Other Ávila sights include the Torreón de los Guzmanes - a tower attached to the provincial council headquarters – and the Four Columns monument which offers fabulous city views.

The Ávila accommodation on Booking.com includes boutique hotels, traditional guest houses and cheap apartments near the train station.

Impressive walls are surrounding the city and invite for a nice walk. April seems the right moment to visit it. In summertime it may get very hot. The Sofraga Palacio Hotel is the best option to stay we think.

Avila is quite nice for sightseeing. My problem is with the food industry. We are vegan and the options for us to eat were poor at best. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. The food represented as vegan to us was very poor quality, even at nicer restauraunts.

Avila got its unesco status because of its fortress wall and well deserved too. Wish we could walk on its parapet/battlement all the way round. We ate all our meals at restaurants inside the wall like a lot of other tourists. If you can find fartons for breakfast, they are incredibly cheap and deliciously fresh. I wish we were better informed by the tourist information centre (on same site as our hotel) about the Heullas Teresa de Jesus pilgrimage and be given a booklet to be stamped for our visit (as like for camino).

The staff speaks English (finally somebody), despite late hour of our arrival they were kind. Organization of accommodation was perfect - we did online check-in and received code to our room. Bed comfortable, bathroom great, everything clean a now-looking. Hotel like middle-age palace style, surrounded by city walls in Avila. Parking is not so easy in close surrounding, but in walking distance (10 min) we found some public parking.

    * Location is superb. You can see the Avila Walls from some of the room windows. And it is just a few steps away from the Cathedral and the centre of the ancient town. * The building itself is beautiful, and decoration is stunning. * Not good or bad, just if you go by car, be aware of the tricky road you should take to get to the hotel parking. We had to call the hotel so he could explain to us manoeuvre to manoeuvre to get there.

Excellent apartment! It is very well refurbished, being modern, simple and comfortable. Location is perfect (within the walls and 1 min away from Plaza del Mercado Chico). Although central, it is very quiet. During our stay it was cold, but the heating system was very good and simple to use. The host was great in welcoming us and clearing any doubts. Parking is not far from the apartment and although narrow, it is a plus in Ávila.

Really lovely little hotel. Great parking in the owners garage for our motorbikes. Hotel is clean and comfy. The major plus about this hotel is its location! Right on the walls of the walled city of Avila. This place is a hidden gem. Its stunningly beautiful and the people couldn't do enough for you. Had the best two days there and we will definitely return. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

A lovely hotel in the heart of Avila. A stones throw from restaurants and the attractions. The room was of a generous size with all amenities. The bathroom was massive! The breakfast was a hot & cold buffet with an excellent selection, and the staff were accommodating with extra items supplied from the kitchen should you need them. Private secure parking was available which was perfect for us.

The hotel is literally across the street from the beautiful cathedral, and you are right within the old walls of Avila with walking distance to all of the sights. It's a gorgeous old hotel with a ton of character. Rooms are massively large (tall and spacious). Bathrooms are also huge. Parking is in a garage right under the hotel. Benedicto is the best host you could dream of. Friendly, helpful, he welcomed us with a bottle of wine, bread, croissants and a few bottles of water. The location is just perfect, in the very centre of the town, and the garage is situated a few steps from the entrance to the building (and it is big which is not very common in Spain).
