Accommodation in Lamu

We are vegetarian so opted for the Swahili breakfast. It was excellent and the portions were large. We requested for late checkout and they obliged.

The people ! Everyone was so lovely and welcoming. Mildred was so helpful and kind. Additionally, the ambiance is so serene. Like a simple serenity. It’s an absolutely stunning property.

Very very friendly staff, the Hotel was beautiful designed and the breakfast that Benson made every morning was perfect. I would definitely recommend Jannataan Hotel.

The Banda we had was Deep Sea, nestled in the sand dunes with a gorgeous sea view. The decor was so well thought through with little details making such a difference from the weaving of the plants and their water system. To the lovely toiletries, gorgeous robes and swinging day beds. We wanted for nothing.Kizingo is paradise, peaceful and the perfect place to relax, explore, swim and just be. Nikki (the owner) and Pauline, Millicent, Paul, Alan and each of the team work so hard to ensure your stay at Kizingo is exactly when you need. They tune into each of the guests needs and Ensure you have your own Kizingo experience. There were activities available for us to do each day. We particularly loved the walk and bonfire in the dunes at sunset and swimming in the mangroves. Each meal was exceptional, carefully crafted with local ingredients / Catch of the day to ensure no waste. All healthy, tasty and delicious. Kizingo (the corner) is magical. Each night we would lay and look at the stars whilst listening to the gentle waves and nature. Thank you so much team. We will be back.

The food is amazing the staff lovely

I loved the interior pool, it looks just stunning. The whole interior was proper swahili archotecture that made my stay so authentic and luxurios at same. They also organised for me the boat transfer which was very convenient.

A great hotel in the middle of the amazing town Shella. We enjoyed it!

Everyone was really kind and willing to help. You could ask and get help whenever needed (doing the laundry, advice for restaurants, means of transport, etc.) Moreover, the view from the rooftop was amazing and the architecture of the building fascinating. Definitively worth it!

Stop Over Shela was honestly one of the highlights of my time in Lamu. From the warm welcome to the genuine hospitality throughout my stay, everything felt effortless and special. The place has such a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. It’s peaceful, comfortable, and gives you the perfect feeling of being in Shela rather than simply staying somewhere. The room was clean and comfortable, and the whole place had a really welcoming feel. The staff deserve a special mention—they were incredibly kind, attentive, and accommodating. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble, and their warmth made the experience even better. And the food was fantastic! Fresh, tasty, and full of flavour. I genuinely looked forward to every meal. I left feeling completely relaxed and very well taken care of. If you’re visiting Lamu and want somewhere with great food, wonderful people, and that authentic Shela charm, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Stop Over Shela. A truly memorable stay. I’ll definitely be back! ❤️🌴

Everything was perfekt. The room is super clean, is safe and has everything what you need for a perfect stay. Arnold, the host, is increíble friendly, he will give you all informations about Lamu/Shela and all Islands around. He knows everything and the advices for nice day trips, hikes, restaurants... are insane. The breakfast is amazing and you can start your day with a good coffee or tea. The balconies are so beautiful and you can see whole Lamu from the highest one. Thanks for the nice time and all the perfect advices for whole Kenya:)

Arnold, the owner, is a very kind & caring man. He goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable. He also takes a great deal of time to explain about the different activities in the area and has great recommendations for the best restaurants. He also has a fabulous map with everything in the township marked on it. Breakfast is exceptional with fresh fruit juice, different fresh fruits, eggs of your choice, toast, tea & coffee. There is free tea & coffee available all day along with cold drinks which are paid on an honour system. The rooms are very clean and serviced daily. The bed & pillows are comfortable albeit a little on the small side. The cold shower works well & isn't that cold. The hostel is centrally located in Lamu township..
