We came back to Lamu after two years and even though we browsed a little bit, there was no other place that we rather wanted to stay at. Perfectly located behind the Fort, right behind the main square, Subira is easy to find, offers the greatest views and privacy.
Everyone working there made our stay a true pleasure. Absolutely loved it, also this time.
Some part of the downstairs area is now a café for the public which invited people during the day – really nice touch that makes it more lively.

Quiet at night (except for donkey sounds, but that's everywhere in Lamu/Shela!). Great staff, who really took care of us ! It's better to stay here than in one of the big touristy hotels, you feel more part of the community.

The beach was incredibly clean and despite the poverty very little was being hawked so it was truly peaceful. Shela is far preferable to Lamu.

One of the best places to stay in Lamu, with an amazing terrace in a spectacular house. There are a lot of good and not expensive restaurants around. The owner of the house did all to make it more than comfortable, arranged a pick up from the airport, gave me a free upgrade of the room, asked every day if I need or wish something, helped to find a amazing boat tour and enable to stay in the house a few hours longer. Thank you so much Stephen, and also thanks to Michael the caretaker. See you next time!

The view from our room was amazing 😍 .
The staff is excellent. They were very friendly, warm and welcoming, always ready to provide information and assistance. Their service was top-notch. Joel and the rest of the team were wonderful.
The room including the balcony had a lot of space and plenty of areas to just sit and relax.
The hotel is in a quiet area which is perfect when you're on holiday to rest and relax.

We had a great stay here. Despite the power being out in all of Lamu, we made it work and the place was clean and comfortable. Jivanjee was a great host and greated us at the beginning and end of our stay as well as connected us to local guides.

The place was clean. The staff were so good especially Peter the house keeper and Abu who was our chef. Its private so you get to enjoy your space. Spacious rooms and clean beddings. Also Tarik is such a good host he gave us contacts of people who would be able to offer us assistance incase we needed any and hence our stay was seamless and very easy.

Great cheaper option in Shela, perfect location just a few minutes walk to the beach. The room was clean and had a fan for the heat, and there is a nice pool. Staff were helpful and friendly, the continental breakfast was okay, they offered a Swahili option for the second day but I unfortunately had to leave early before trying but I would recommend asking for that if you're interested. Overall I think it was a great option for the price, and I would stay again :)

After a slight misunderstanding as to the day or arrival, Elizabeth and Cornelius promptly managed to solve the issue and pick us up and have the house ready for us. The staff was always courteous and available to help us. Steven, the cook, cooked wonderful meals as per our requests and we settled all bills directly with him.
The swimming pool is marvelous and the terrace is also a wonderful spot when the breeze flows.
Highly reccomendable if you prefer to stay in Lamu old Town to explore historic sights, rather than in Shela.

Our stay on Manda’s side at Mangrove House was truly wonderful. The location is unmatched, the peace and quiet are absolute.
The staff is wonderful and so is the owner, super attentive and ready to help and share.
The house is right in front of Shela and Peponi hotel, just a short boat trip away.
Would absolutely go back, and recommend it to everyone going to Lamu!

Breakfast was lovely. The staff at the restaurant are all really great, courteous, friendly, and enthusiastic about their jobs. The restaurant and location was really the highlight of our stay at Kijani.
