Chena, the owner, sorry if I misspelled her name is so personable, she baked a chocolate cake for my birthday and made it Vegan so one of my daughters could eat it. It was yummy!

The highlight was definitely the pool; it was beautiful and refreshing, the perfect way to end the day while enjoying the peaceful surroundings. The people there were so incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile. I loved experiencing some of the local traditions and celebrations that were happening while I was there. Even though my Kriol is not fluent, I managed to get by and learn a few new phrases, which was fun And the food? Oh my goodness, it was absolutely delicious with so many unique flavors. The scenery was breathtaking too, with lush greenery and amazing natural wonders to explore.

The town itself is very small, and I wouldn't recommend going there for the town - but rather the quiet hotels/resorts/cabanas along the river by the town.

Its a great base for many of the outdoors tours, which...
Its a great base for many of the outdoors tours, which should be taken advantage of, but if you don't have a tour booked for an activity, there's nothing to do in the town itself besides the iguana sanctuary or chocolate tour. Recommend 3-4 days. We stayed 5 and it was a day too much.
ATM cave is a must, as well as xunantunich and a day trip to Tikal if time.

There is something magical about the experience of this place.
This is a very special place. Mike the owner says he has a special energy. For us it was a place of peace and being in tune with nature. The sunrise over the river, going for a swim in the morning mist with the sounds of the jungle - unbelievable! In the afternoon, the howler monkeys roam the treetops over the small complex. Everything is laid out very sustainably and the fabulous cook spoiled us with local food and a breakfast of our choice. We'll be back - Mike, big hug! The whole staff always have a smile on their faces.

San Ignacio is the ideal starting point for tours to Mayan ruins Cahal Pech, Xunantunich, Caracol, and also Tikal , across the border in Guatemala.
Hiking, cave exploration, river and cave tubing, horse riding are among the most popular here. Plenty of tour companies offer 1/2 day and full day trips. All guides with good English and Spanish!
