Calvi is a great little town. Full of lots of good restaurants serving a good variety of food. The marina is great for an evening walk, drinks down there are a bit more expensive - about 5 euros for a glass fo wine - but a great place to go people watching! Calvi beach is lovely - walk along the boardwalk towards the pine woods that fringe the beach, shallow sea that is nice and warm. As a base to explore the rest of this part of Corsica it is superb. The roads are pretty good although be aware it takes longer to get anywhere than you think! Make sure you go inland - there are some fabulous walks - call in at the tourist information in Calvi - they sell a whole range of leaflets (good quality and pretty cheap) in English that help you explore the area - usually circular walks calling in at hilltop villages. The best thing is that pretty much everywhere the parking is free! You definitely need a car to explore - public transport hard to find. Its one of my most favourite places anywhere!
I visited Calvi 55years ago and returned 15 years ago and again last month .with family . It has changed but is still unspoilt Now has amazing restaurants with delicious food not too expensive . Amazing beaches Perfect holiday destination Safe beaches for children
Calvi is a lovely small town in a wonderful position alongside sea and withgood views of the mountains. Plentiful choice of restaurants and bars. Citadel well worth a visit, particularly for its views. Would recommend boat trip to Scandola with its amazing rock formations. The little train allows for trips along the coast or even as far as Bastia.
Climb up to the Citadel for great views looking down onto Calvi, the harbour, and across the bay to the mountains. Lovely wandering around the old streets - there's even a tiny library, and along harbour. Boat trips, diving, it's all available. Bit later in season are coach trips to places like Girolta, Scandola Nature Reserve, and Spelunca Gorge; go if you can - fabulous day out!! Look out for Polyphonic concerts. And of course the white sandy beach is a must! Loads of places to eat; some restaurants serve Corsican specialities like Sanglia; mussels, lamb, Corse cheeses.
Calvi is a busy town full of bars, restaurants and shops. A lovely small harbour with restaurants that didn't seem to be more expensive than the ones further back in the town. The hotel we stayed at was just a 15 minute stroll either down the beach or along the railway track (but not until after 8pm). It is very easy to catch the train and well worth a trip for the views. There is a boardwalk along the beach and next to the train track with lots of stops along the way. We also noticed adventure activities in the tree tops on the boardwalk. So plenty to do for all the family. One last thing to mention is that the sea in Calvi is very shallow for a long way out, so really good for small children.
Calvi is a small, therefor a very livable city. You should have no fear of booking a room a little far from the downtown. It's cheaper and you surely won't need to make long walks to the beach. Almost all accomodations are nearby the seashore on right or left side of the road which takes to the city center. It is worth to leave your car at your hotel or apartment, because it takes only a 10 minutes walk to reach the downtown and can be very romantic along the seashore.
