Bandung in general was a rather cooling place. Some highly recommended places include, the trip to the Tangkuban Parahu (Crater) - it was a sight to behold. I did not proceed to the Hot Springs as we had to travel by foot and with children it was a bit hard. Furthermore, it was raining hence it was a bit inconvenient. Beware though, you will be hogged by people asking you to buy souvenirs and stuff at the place. The Stone Cafe overlooking the whole of Bandung. The food there is awesome and the view is even more awesome. Trans Studio - an indoor theme park with games catered for different age groups, science gallery (where children can touch starfish and have an experience of fish spa). Paris Van Java (rooftop) - where the children enjoyed feeding the farm animals. Jendela alam - it is like a big farm for children to feed animals, learn about plants, go for flying fox and riding horses. Kampung Java - dining surrounded by nature. The food was simply awesome and the price was relatively cheap. Bandung is a shopping heaven too. Things are relatively cheap and you can find things for everyone there. Getting around in Bandung can be a hassle if you do not have a driver. I had to engage a driver to drive my family around. Traffic can be a killer. The places are near but travelling time is long due to traffic jams. Overall, it was a good relaxing trip.
I was able to locate graves of Prisoners of the Boer War who had travelled to Bandung after refusing to sign the Oath of Allegiance to the British Crown in 1902. There they set up the first Dairy Farming Industry a forerunner of that in place today. The Dutch Cemetery at Pandu holds many other Dutch military personnel from the 1939-45 war and it is unbelievably well maintained. There are 4000 White Wooden Crosses inscribed with the name and dates of those buried there and they are cleaned regularly. The grass is kept short, It is beautifully maintained. It is easy to travel around. I ate at the hotel and in the town. I would go back and avoid nothing. Visit the Volcano its spectacular and the walk will do you good.
Love to shop at Pasar Baru and the outlets like the Heritage and Paris Van Java. Bali Seafood is a place that I won't miss. The people are so polite and patient. However, the Airport is terrible. Hopefully the authorities would do something about it. There is no wheelchair for the disabled and the elderly. Hence, looks like only the fit can come and visit. Also there is no trolley at the airport. Much improvement is needed for their Airport system. The airport is a really negative aspect of Bandung. Otherwise, I believe more tourists worldwide will be attracted to this beautiful place. It is such a pity to see the airport in somewhat the same condition every time I visit Bandung since from a long time ago till now.
- Kawah Putih is pretty nice. Too bad they have different fares for locals and international. Try to get there on a good day because it can get foggy af - Ate street food all the time. Food is rather expensive, although not so much as Jakarta. You hafta try Batagor. Pisang keju is recommended but not necessary. - Public transportation is abundant in Bandung. Although I would suggest evading angkot of you're not traveling with a local Bandung. They can charge you way more than it's supposed to be. Bandung is reasonably walkable on foot.
We went to the Floating Market which had awesome food and cheap too. The vendors accept tokens as mode of payment. Change only what you need as there won't be any refunds given. I had awesome dinner at The Stone and Kampung Daun. Will definitely go there again. We had a driver to take us everywhere, hence easier for us to travel. Buying clothing material is super duper cheap! Alteration etc could be done within a day. Super awesome. The airport needs lots of work though. Everyone who have been there will understand why! Overall, people in Bandung are mostly friendly and very approachable.
I enjoyed dining at Sapu Lidi, Floating Market and Dusun Bambu. Dusun Bambu has many activities like archery, ATV ride, shooting range, etc. Sapu Lidi is very traditional. The ambiance is not staged, you really feel like you are dining in a village in the middle of a paddy field. I love their steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves! It is better to go around Bandung during weekdays as the traffic flow is better.
