My wife and I only stayed overnight. Quite roomy for 2. Like the view of the ocean and poolside. We like going there for the hot bath in the past. Downside: very old facilities with some upgrades, toilet is very small and tight, hotel does not have free complementary breakfast.

The vicinity of the sanctuary makes it a very special place, and you should not miss the early sunrise above the tori! We also had a wonderful, early swim. The house is very well equipped for a family, everything you might need is inside (also coffee and tea, oil and vinegar etc); and if not, trust Tetsuo, the wonderful owner, to find it. Meeting with Tetsuo-san was great. He will share his vast knowledge and passion about his region and will spare no effort to make you feel confortable. We spent a full week-end here driving around the Kunisaki Peninsula (think exceptional temples and out of the way sanctuaries, superb fish to eat, small pristine castle towns...), and we would have loved to stay for longer.

The breakfast tasted so delicious, Mr Taro from the front desk suggested it and very resonable prize. During our stay my niece was poorly, she had a fever and the night staff 2 japanese men rang the hospital for us. He even type the hospital location to my sister’s car because she struggled with reading kanji. They were all very helpful to us,they lend their thermometer even put a translator for my husband inorder to understand him. I have had a problem connecting with my sister to pick us up from the Umi Jigoku and Mr Taro was talking to us in English and all the staffs were all very helpful. Mr Taro even left the desk to ask our my niece was. Please give him an award or praise please. Many thanks to all the cleaners the onsen lady for private family bath.

Situated 39 km from Beppu Station, Ryoan Fukinotou features accommodation in Bungotakada with access to a public bath. Right beside Fuki-ji, allowing for zen experience in the morning. Food was delicious. Staff were cute and helpful and friendly. Local artisanal products subtlety on display!
