Benito Juarez Airport (MEX) Information

Location and Transport

More than 100,000 passengers pass through Mexico City International Airport – officially known as Benito Juárez Airport – every day, destined for any one of 100 destinations across three continents. It’s located just 3 miles (5 kilometres) from downtown Mexico City, meaning there’s plenty of time for sightseeing if you have a scheduled layover. For getting in and out, numerous Metrobus lines offer round-the-clock transportation to the city centre and other nearby cities. There’s also the Metro as a cheaper alternative, shuttling travellers to and from Terminal Aérea Station along Line 5.

Thanks to its central location, there are plenty of hotels near Mexico City Airport to cater to stranded passengers or anyone with a short layover. In terms of airport facilities, there are duty free shops, restaurants, cafés and bars in all terminals. There’s also a hospital, several banks and currency exchange kiosks. You can even get your shoes shined as you wait to board your flight.

We fell in love with Mexico City!

We fell in love with Mexico City! The city is so dynamic, with absolutely amazing history, culture and food. People are so kind and try to help a traveler navigate -- one guy ran after us for two blocks to let us know that the location we were headed was closed on a Monday. The city was so green and lush in late August -- we didn't mind the daily shower, though be prepared, for the timing is inconsistent. The trade-off is that it's much easier to get into museums, restaurants, etc. in the (not-so) rainy season. We saw so many things -- would highly recommend a historic center tour, a cable car ride across the city, Xochimilco boat ride, Frida Kahlo's house and the Anthropology Museum. Try to see the Secretariat of Public Education, a former convent housing many Diego Rivera murals. Have lunch at Sanborns at the Casa de los Azulejos (House of Blue Tiles), an architecturally and historically significant former palace.

The traffic was unusually slow because of the weather, it rained ever day we were there so that was disappointing. The city centre was very clean and the food was excellent in all the restaurants we visited.

Great architecture. Safe environment.

Great architecture. Safe environment. Interesting galleries, museums and public buildings. Good value. Easy city to walk around and also cheap and efficient public transport which was easy to use, especially the metro system. Clean streets. Central historical centre of the city is amazing.

Superb location. Short walk across the breezeway straight into Terminal 1 of MEX Airport. Lobby bar/restaurant had the best quesadillas of our trip to Mexico - very pleasant surprise for what is normally a business traveller hotel. Rooms spacious, very quiet, and clean. Bed super comfortable. Excellent shower.
