Location is great - super close to the airport. The host is very kind and waited for us till we arrived at 10-11pm. The room was very comfortable and shared bathroom too, the whole place was very clean. The host ordered a taxi for us in advance which made our trip hassle free.

Amazing city!
It is so colorful and beautiful to walk around in, and I felt a fear of missing out if I didnt explore it all!
The food was some of the best we had in all of Mexico, and people were welcoming and nice.

We stayed at a the Huayapam Yuu Lodge on the edge of the village, exceptional. An extraodinary setting with mountain views, gracious and helpful hosts, a real sense of tradition and authenticity, wonderful food, plants, hummingbirds -- it was a restful retreat and jumping off place for many fantastic day trips in the region, and just a taxi ride away to Oaxaca city. In future we'd like to explore the eco-park near town and eat at the XHEN Cocina de Humo Contemporánea restaurant, as well as take more time to explore the town and maybe catch the Easter procession (we heard plenty of practice fireworks and music in the distance). The Lodge was amazing!

Interesting and comfortable city to explore, with good restaurants and good markets for shopping. The Zocalo was a good place to hang out and people watch. We found 2 good restaurants with great food and great views - Hotel Los Amantes, with a magnificent view of Santo Domingo Cathedral and reasonable prices, and Mezzaluna,, with good pizza and Italian food for when you need a break for Mexican food.

It was quiet and there were many sitting areas on the grounds / pool area. I could easily walk around the village without having to rent a taxi though they certainly would have called me for one. The room was beautiful. I was there for a week while taking Spanish classes in the nearby school.

Oaxaca is a tourist mecca with lots of vehicle and foot traffic. The sidewalks are mostly uneven, sloping from tree roots, broken, not easy for older people. Oaxaca is on a grid so it's easy to learn the terrain. Get a map! Though most establishments have someone who speaks English, if you learn some Spanish and/or use Google Translate, your experience will be better. Warning: Oaxaca is a mile high so give yourself a day or two to acclimate before exerting yourself.
Prices are dirt cheap by U.S. standards. High end restaurants like Los Dazantes or Asador Bacanora are still inexpensive and excellent.
Translate Mexican pesos to U.S. dollars by moving the decimal point in pesos one place to the left. Half of that amount is the U.S. value.
