Astoria is a great get- away place along the coast to visit, which has lots of history worth exploring, as well as beautiful scenery. It's not as busy or crowded as many of the other coastal towns, which makes it more appealing for retired people and families without small children. There are a number of brew pubs, wine bars & restaurants, which make it an interesting place to explore various culinary styles. Taking the trolley along the river way was a surprising gem- so inexpensive, & a character- filled, entertaining, informative exploration of the heart of this charming town.

Gearhart is less commercial and less busier than other coastal towns, with a relaxed vibe and quiet. That said, this town is super close to restaurants and services in Seaside and the art galleries of Cannon Beach. I was able to visit and enjoy all three towns and enjoy the amenities of all of them without having to do a lot of driving. I ate at Nonnies for Italian dinner one night (Seaside) and yum. I enjoyed the Dragonfire Gallery in Cannon Beach on another day. My favorite was walking the clean deserted beach at Gearhart where I had nature all to myself.

I love this area of Oregon!

I love this area of Oregon! The most unique and amazing beaches and coastal views I've ever seen! A short drive to Cannon Beach and the infamous Haystack Rock. We planned our trip for the minus tide and it was unbelievable!

What a place!

What a place! I have not heard of Astoria until I read a book "Astoria" given to me by a friend. When we got to the town all of history with Lewis and Clark and John Jacob Astor came to life. the town is very pleasant and all of the people we encountered were exceptionally kind. We also loved the trolly ride which gave us a perspective of the other history of the place. Thank You

The location was fabulous, just a short (15 min.) trip to either Astoria or Seaside. Loads of restaurants for those who choose not to cook. We were a little disappointed that there were not more beach access points.

Great bookstore, clean beach and boardwalk, friendly people...

Great bookstore, clean beach and boardwalk, friendly people at all the stores and in the town in general, fun places and activities, safe area, great places to eat with reasonable prices, fun activities for both kids and adults to enjoy, beautiful and clean beach, great location just all around! River inn at seaside is a great place to stay - clean, pool, fire pits at no extra charge, delicious breakfast, play structure for kids, very affordable rates, quality rooms with comfy beds beds and spacious (me and my 3 kids stayed in a room and it didn’t feel cramped at all!). Mo’s seafood place on the boardwalk is delicious, reasonable prices especially for food quality, and a beautiful view even sitting inside but especially if you sit outside. The bookstore in town has a great selection, is very homey feeling, and they even special ordered me a book I had been looking for at no extra charge and they got it in the next day! There’s a carousel for the kids that’s fun, just be aware they only accept cash for it but there is a cash machine right next to it. Seaside is very safe and clean. The people who live in the town are all very friendly and helpful. It’s a very pet friendly town to stay in. The beach is clean and absolutely beautiful. Prices all around are pretty reasonable. The pizza place with the arcade is a lot of fun for both kids and adults, and the pizza there is delicious! The cheese they put on it is very tasty and high quality. Getting around seaside in a car can be a little more challenging, but there are parking lots that are safe and there’s no charge for a lot of them, and they are only a few blocks from the beach! In my opinion, walking from the hotel and all around is the best way to go though! We come every summer, and we will be back again next summer!

Astoria is an old city. There is lots to see and do there.

Astoria is an old city. There is lots to see and do there. There are a lot of restaurants with a variety of foods available. There are several restaurants with river views and outside seating available. One of the restaurants that we visited had large sliding windows that allow for the smells of the river to be enjoyed. There are several antique shops with a wide variety of items to view and/or purchase. Traffic is horrible as the streets are narrow and there is a lot of through traffic as well a lot of tourists.

Seaside is a no brainer.

Seaside is a no brainer. The most popular beach town in northern Oregon. Easily accessible from hwy 101 south or north. Near to several other beaches and attractions. Astoria is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Tillamook is just down the coast as is Cannon Beach. Fun shops and eateries on the main road. Plentiful hotels. Great beach ambience with multiple beach access points and a long promenade.
