Siena is a compact city of layers of history, art and faith, and you'll explore it on foot with an authorised guide. As you walk through the streets you will notice how the town has changed over the centuries and enjoy the scenery and curious details. You will visit Piazza del Campo, the true heart of Siena, and see the Palazzo Comunale (Town Hall). Along the way your guide will point out the palazzos and stories of great noble families such as the Piccolomini, Tolomei and Salimbeni, explain the long tradition of the Siena Palio, and relate the town’s histories of pilgrimage and saintliness.
The walk will continue with a visit to the Cathedral, which preserves important works by artists including Nicola Pisano, Duccio di Buoninsegna, Donatello and Gianlorenzo Bernini. You will learn about these treasures and see the Cathedral’s remarkable marble floor, a unique example in the history of art. You will leave with a clearer sense of Siena’s artistic, religious and civic heritage.
