This excursion from Bentota offers the perfect mix of nature, culture and history in some of Galle's major attractions.
You'll get to know the region's endemic flora and fauna through a boat safari ride across the Bentota River and a visit to a local turtle conservation project. There will also be a chance to witness local craftsmanship at Ambalangoda, a village famous for its wood carving and mask industry. You'll then learn about the region's rich history as you visit the Galle Fort, initially built first in 1588 by the Portuguese and fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century.
You'll round off your excursion by watching local fishermen going stilt fishing – a traditional fishing style in Sri Lanka's southern coast where fishers perch on cross-shaped beams to catch fish.
