San Juan de Ulua is the name of a small island in Mexico where the old fortress and the former port (with the same name) are located. The construction of the fortress was planned by the Spaniards under the command of Hernan Cortés on April 22, 1519, in the context of the conquest of America and the pirate and corsair attacks of the time against Spain.
