A Visit to Stone Town, you’ll find the fascinating Prison Island, a serene getaway rich in history and natural beauty. The island is home to Aldabra tortoises, which were brought from the Seychelles in 1919, and they roam freely across the land. Located only about half an hour from Stone Town, this island offers an excellent spot for snorkeling in crystal-clear waters and sunbathing on its peaceful shores.
The island holds a unique historical significance. It was initially used as a quarantine station before the British built a prison for Stone Town in the 1890s. However, the prison building was never actually put into use. Today, visitors can explore the remains of the prison structure, as well as the lush surroundings that make this island a popular destination for both history buffs and nature lovers alike.
