Our three-night stay at Matraville Homestay was a very welcome change-of-pace after jungle treks and volcano hikes in Bukit Lawang and Berestagi. Our unit was VERY large (it would have easily suited a family of four) and well-appointed with a TV, fridge, sink and kettle for use. It was also spread over two levels, with the downstairs serving as the entrance/living room area/kitchenette, and the bedroom and bathroom/separate shower area upstairs. BONUS(ES): the unit entrance featured a little patio with a table and chair where you could have an early-morning coffee or tea while facing the sunrise; the upstairs level also provided a small balcony area to take in the morning sun or evening dusk. While the room we chose was across the street from the water (a 90-second walk at most, down a couple of shallow flights of steps, and therefore didn’t provide a direct waterfront view), there are two rooms available in another portion of the property that face the water and are just steps from it. Our excellent Host, Dimmer, picked us up from the Tuk Tuk ferry landing (and can also drop you off when you depart) and will provide you with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable, including tips on places to eat or have coffee nearby and suggestions for what to do/see on Samosir Island. He will also provide scooters for daily/multi-day use for very reasonable rates.

The accommodation is in a beautiful and peaceful area overlooking the mountains. However it's also convenient with many stores nearby. The hosts are incredibly kind ,hospitable and always happy to help or give recommendations. Highly recommend!

I Padang, 13 minutters gange fra Air Manis-stranden, ligger The view padang, Amazing view, 8 mins Mentawai fast ferry, cold beer, close to restaurants, som har en hage, gratis privat parkering, en... Robert, the owner is a really nice guy and goes out of his way to accommodate all the guests. The view from our room was amazing, we just wanted to stay in the guesthouse all day every day! Roberts dog Rocky is also the best little companion.

Nær stranden i Bukit Lawang ligger JUNGLE LIFE GUEST HOUSE - Trekking & Transport Only Book With Us, som har en bar. Alek the owner is an amazing host, he really takes care of you. The jungle 2 day jungle trek he arranged was amazing too. The accommodation in right in the middle of the town and close to everything. The rooms are good and the bed is super comfy. All in all, I had an amazing stay here.

I Medan, 9,3 kilometer fra Masjid Raya Al-Mashun-moskeen, ligger Bua Guest House, som har en hage, gratis privat parkering, en terrasse og en restaurant. The owners were beyond helpful with anything I needed. One of the most accommodating and helpful hosts I’ve ever experienced.

The 2 guides Rian and Santa were the best guides I’ve encountered anywhere in all my years of traveling. They were so kind, funny and thoughtful. The food on the trek was phenomenal and it really was a wonderful experience. The property is great, with a beautiful lush green garden.

Amazing staff! And the guest house is right next to the national park so there are wild orangutans wandering around. We had a really good stay here and would definitely recommend! 🙂
