Describe your best tip for traveling cheap in Istanbul.

the first thing to do is getting an Istanbul card very useful for metro and tram usage to get you everywhere. avoid shops in the main attraction streets, and always bargain, if you're a tourist the price you're being told is probably three times the real price.
when you arrive at airport we got oursses a istanbulkart its similar to the London oyster card whereby you load money onto it is was really good and you can use the trams funicular and buses etc only one card is needed for you all
I went in the off season, during February. Yes, it was cold and it snowed, but I paid 50% less for my flight and hotel and the museums were not crowded.
Use less of the taxis and more of the metros, they cheaper and safer. Also look out for the cab drivers, they can dupe you if they get the opportunity
go to a hostel and just wander around the city. The backstreets are really cheap, but as you get closer to the Grand Bazaar stuffi gets expensive.
Use the tram and metro. Be careful when using the taxis, some taxi drivers are not honest with the routes and fares!
Avoid taxis, stay in old city, don't buy things from the airport on arrival.
