Kalorama Guest House

Woodley Park, Washington, D.C.

Located in Washington D.C., just 4 minutes' walk to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, Kalorama Guest House offers rooms with heating and air conditioning. A shared lounge is available and free WiFi is provided throughout the property. This guest house is ideally situated for the zoo which is free to enter. There is a Metro station a short walk away although I walked to the centre of Washington every day. The room was comfortable and clean. The best thing about staying here was Jack who ran the guest house. He made everyone welcome introducing other guests to one another. Breakfast was buffet style with plenty of choice also there were always cookies left out for guests to eat. Although there were no coffee or tea in the room the kitchen was always available to use and there was a cold and hot water dispenser in the lobby.

The Jefferson Hotel

Embassy Row, Washington, D.C.

Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., this boutique hotel boasts a full-service spa and on-site dining. Tributes to Thomas Jefferson, including signed historical documents, are found throughout the hotel. One of the best city hotels I have stayed in the US. It is immaculately maintained and is well positioned. The rooms are large and comfortable (we had a deluxe queen). It has a good bar (with a good meals menu) which is open till late. It also has a first class fine dining restaurant and plenty of quiet public spaces to sit and read or work. The staff are pleasant and helpful. Overall a delightful experience.
