If you are in Leon take the time to spend a few days at Las Peñitas at Nuevo NAYAL! It’s stunning and beautifully designed. Everything feels new! The spanish couple who set up this place are so kind and welcoming. They have created a true oasis to escape the heat of the city and I couldn’t have had a better 3 nights stay here to round off my trip in Nicaragua. The food is brilliant as well at the restaurant. I ate all my meals there as they were too good! And the staff went out of their way to help me with laundry and tours etc. It’s definitely one of the best, if not the best place to stay in Las Penitas.

All the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The owner and the staff in the restaurant went above ane beyond for us. They helped me organise shuttles. The pool was very clean and the breakfast was delicious.

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the hotel itself is stunning - beautifully designed, quaint, and full of charm. The sunsets are truly out of this world! The surfing was consistently great, and Max was an amazing instructor - patient, knowledgeable, and fun to learn from. Morning yoga classes were a fantastic addition and really elevated the overall experience. We also went horseback riding, which was unforgettable. The restaurant alone is worth coming back for. Every dish felt intentional, fresh, and rooted in the local flavors, without trying too hard. Combined with sunset views, post-surf exhaustion, and genuinely thoughtful service, meals became a highlight of each day. This place doesn’t just offer an experience — it lingers. Easily a 10 out of 10.

A nice hostel just a few blocks from the central park in Leon. The place had a quiet, pleasant vibe to it, which is what I was seeking. The main floor had five sleeping rooms, a combination of dorms and private rooms, I believe all with shared baths. The second floor had four more private rooms, each with its own private bath. The breakfasts were always good, with a choice of three types of breakfast. Once breakfast ended, guest were free to use the kitchen the rest of the day. Coffee and filtered water were also available throughout the day. If you're looking for a nice, pleasant stay in Leon, Hostal La Tortuga Booluda is a good choice.
