This place is pretty special. The house itself is really comfortable, thoughtfully appointed with all you need, sparklingly clean and sits on a large block with an abundant vegetable garden and a mountain as a backdrop. I had a room to myself - which they will try to do for solo travellers - and I enjoy sleeping on a futon so all was very comfortable there. The hosts were so friendly and generous - they took time to show me around the garden and have a chat, make sure I was comfortable, but also gave plenty of space for relaxing. The kitchen has some necessities (e.g. oil, soy sauce, salt and pepper) and it's a quick drive to an excellent supermarket (I had a car) to stock up on other ingredients for meals - there are also a few basics there to purchase if you are caught out (e.g. instant noodles). Situated close to the spectacular Tanesashi Coast leg of the Michinoku Trail, it's an excellent option if you want to do days hikes. I'm so glad I booked this spot - it was a heartwarming experience and a refreshing alternative to staying in larger towns and cities.

Tom and his family were so welcoming from the moment I arrived until I left. Not only is a great breakfast provided, there is the option for an amazing dinner. Tom is a great chef and the food was always tasty. He even offers a free drop off to the mountain each morning. I would highly recommend you stay here.

Really lovely pension and host who has jazz music playing in the dining room most of the time. We had 2 rooms next to each other for our family of 5, with shared bathroom facilities. Breakfast was perfect, just what you need before hitting the ski slopes. Iwate Kogen and Amihari Onsen just up the road. You really need a car with snow tyres to access if there is a lot of snow around. About an hour drive from Appi so definitely doable as a day trip.
