El Bolsón is a quiet and beautiful place with dry, calm climate. For Patagonia, there is very little wind. The access to La Reserva Rio Azul for trekking is simple and there are many refugios (staffed huts) in the mountains to make camping easy. Also close to the national park, Los Alerces, and Bariloche/the lakes region, but quieter and less expensive.
Beautiful hiking in the area, great craft/food market, excellent store for hiking food (El Molino.) Cheap food and drink. Warning: Bring plenty of Argentinean pesos to El Bolson! It was not like most other tourist towns; changing money was very challenging (Banco Nacional is only open 8-1, and lines are extremely long.)
The place has a nice atmosphere with plenty of young and old artisan people selling there products. Nice bars with local music Being played also in the streets. If you can speak Spanish then you would have a great time.
If you love hiking, markets or relaxing then this is the place! It’s easy to get around, visit the local markets on Tue, Thur and Sat - everything must be handmade and you will find some treasures! The ice cream is great - ask the staff their favourites and you can’t go wrong. The hike to Cerro Piltriquitrón is worth it for the views but if you’re not up for a full day then there are some lookouts just a short walk from town like View Cascada and Mirador Amigo which has a nice wooden platform/deck to view the sunset from.
Awesome market some days of the week. Local farms produce great fruit and ace beers. Local hikes average but if you get bus to places further out or stay at refuges up in the mountains looks stunning.
I love the vibe in El Bolson, the green and happy feeling, people are relaxed and they seem happy! Lots of greenery and flowers all rurrounded by the mountain. Mild and warm weather . I love my visit to the lake which you can reach by public transport.
