San Carlos de Bariloche is located on the shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake and surrounded by the magnificent Nahuel Huapi National Park. Perched among 2000-metre high mountains, the town is one of the biggest winter sports resorts in South America. It is the Argentinean capital of artisan chocolate, and mixes Central European influence with native traditions.
Originally populated by different native tribes, the modern settlement grew in the last decades of the 19th century around the shop of the German immigrant Carlos Wiederhold. Its development reached a peak in the 1930s, with the completion of the railroad, the creation of the national park, and the construction of several emblematic buildings. The Civic Centre and the Neo-Gothic cathedral, as well as some famous Bariloche hotels were built to resemble a Swiss village.
The city is one of the most popular destinations in Argentina and a gateway to Patagonia. Hotels, luxury resorts, guest houses, B&Bs and hostels, are part of Bariloche’s large range of accommodation. It has famous ski stations like Mount Catedral, and is also the traditional destination for students in their last year of secondary school.
A 2-hour flight from Buenos Aires to Bariloche Airport is the quickest way to reach the town. If you’re planning a trip to Patagonia, don’t miss the Bariloche hotel deals available on Booking.com!
Bariloche, a magical destination that enchants winter lovers with its chilly climate and an array of thrilling winter activities. Nestled amidst the stunning landscapes of Argentine Patagonia, this charming town offers the perfect icy setting for skiing and embracing winter adventures. With its majestic mountains and abundant snow, Bariloche becomes a true paradise for snow sports enthusiasts. Beyond breathtaking ski slopes, visitors can indulge in an array of exciting activities such as snowboarding, snowshoeing, and exhilarating sled rides pulled by Siberian huskies. The picturesque scenery, coupled with cozy chalets and inviting restaurants, makes Bariloche an unparalleled winter destination, capturing the hearts of all adventurers in search of a unique experience.
The worst in San Carlos de Bariloche is everything that is sold and offered to the tourists. Every walk you take is better than any paid tour. Not just because by walking around you'll get better views (amazing views by the way) and also overall experiences (get closer to the nature, be able to actually listen the sounds in the woods, do it at your own relaxed times) but also because you will avoid extremely (!!) long queue lines, bad mooded couples fighting, kids crying, dirt and noise... To sum up, there are so many astonishing trails to walk around Bariloche and you get to see everything you want, that paying for a tour is just a rookie mistake.
I would recommend this vacation for anyone who likes hiking, fishing and breathtaking views. The hotel we stayed in was right on the Nahuel Huapi Lake. Personally, that was half the joy. We stayed at Charming Luxury Lodge which was 5 miles from town but walking distance to many restaurants. Each room had a terrace to sit with the local, very inexpensive wine and cheese and take in the view. Tours picked us up at the hotel. My husband also had the best fishing experience of his life there. My son did some killer scrambling. I hiked to the Llao Llao peak - a must do if you are a hiker and love beautiful views. As for tours, we enjoyed the boat trip over to Lake Victoria and the Arranyes Forest. Keep in mind Argentina is an AMAZING value right now due to the exchange rate.
We lived 8 km away from Bariloche so we would take a bus. The intervals are about 15-20 minutes. We loved Mamushka shop with a lovely coffee shop inside in Bariloche, since we lived in La Playa Bonita - we ate there. "Kunstmann" offered excellent German-Patagonian beers and traditional German food. Great view as well. We also liked "La Playa" - a small lovely wooden restaurant perched above the lake - 30 meters from the water. Excellent view and good Argentinian food. Next time we come to Bariloche we will check the weather forecast when staying there. We planned to visit Teleferico Cerro Otto and failed to do so - they stop cable cars when it's windy and when it's rainy.
A very picturesque town with plenty of food options and a busy main street with everything you could want. Beautiful visitas. Helpful if you have a car but not necessary. Be prepared for hilly streets.
This is a great town, but it is important to leave the city and visit the natural beauty that surrounds it. Great chocolate, nice stores, beautiful cathedral, but more stunning is the Circuito Chico which takes you to some striking views of the area. It includes Cerro Campanario, Colonia Suiza and the Punto Panoramico which should not be missed.
The location of the hotel is exceptional with a fantastic view of the Lake due to the fact that is located on a hill, so you can enjoy the panoramic views from many of the rooms and from most of the public areas, like the indoors-pool, the bar, reception, breakfast area. The staff is absolutely helpful, friendly, professional and hardworking. Breakfast is very nice, lots of delicious products, catering to international guest plus local very nice items
Outstanding location. You need about 20 min by car to the city centre and about the same time to Cerro Catedral (Ski-Resort-Base). I was there with my mountainbike. You can start cycling right from the hotel to the Cerro Catedral with a great single track downhill path.
Cerro Catedral, San Carlos de Bariloche
The views were great, and our room was very close to the pool which was the main reason we chose this hotel. we were able to watch the kids in the pool from our room’s patio. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was nice having a kitchen in the room.
Great location, rooms were fairly large with great staff to help. Hotel is decorated with lots of movies and rockstar posters, so it adds a nice touch. Breakfast buffet was great, with lots of hot and cold food options. Really great value for what we got.
The room is nice and clean, the breakfast is good and the heated pool is amazing! My kids loved it. The hotel is around 20 minutes away from the city center on foot, so a car is handy if you're staying there.
San Carlos de Bariloche
One of the best hostel I've stayed in Argentina. Breakfast great too. Rooms are big ( with changing room as well!!!). Clean and tidy. The girl serving the Breakfast in the morning was kind and helpful.
Really lovely hotel with lovely lounge bar and pool with incredible views! We moved from an awful hotel (hotel huemul) and it was a joy to be at this hotel with a lake view from our room :)
San Carlos de Bariloche
Lovely location and a amazing view. The cabin was cozy and the bedroom spacious and comfortable. A great breakfast at the hotel and freindly staff.
Lago Gutierrez, San Carlos de Bariloche
Location: right next to the river which has a stunning view during the day. And you can hike the hill behind the hotel to go to the ski town.
great value for the price you pay. Nothing special, but has a great location, and the hotel is more than decent.
Friendly host. Great breakfast. Wonderful view. Would definitely recommend. Nice homey hotel!!
Very cozy hotel in the perfect location with very hospitable personnel. I would visit again.
