We were meeting up with friends who were camping nearby at Turner caravan park, this turned out to be two minutes walk away. Just perfect. Augusta is delightful with beautiful scenery and great wineries not far away. Great walking trails too. The hotel does great bar meals and has a wood burner. The Colour Patch is a cafe and restaurant at night. Not open early in the week.
Cannot help the weather but cold and damp. However house was comfortable. Ate at Chinese, hotel, Colourpatch all good food. Travelledto lighthouse and surrounding areas.Margaret River, Busselton, Yallingup, cowaramup etc.
We really loved this town. Everywhere you went you could see the water. The town really makes an effort it was so clean. All the parks and gardens were well looked after. All the people were so lovely and friendly and nice. We really fell in love with Augusta.
A beautiful place to visit only a 3.5 hour drive from Perth, with both the Blackwood River and Southern ocean meeting making it a very scenic place. Only a short drive to the Leeuwin lighthouse and Jewel Cave with a modern marina to experience Whale watching as well as fishing charters along with a great hotel for enjoying a nice meal and having a few drinks. A relaxing time with friendly people all around.
We planned our stay around two days and organised three main activities - Lighthouse Tour, River Cruise and Jewel Cave Visit. In between we visited half a dozen historical sights and lookouts. We also fitted in a visit to the local (Excellent) Historical Museum. Could have added another day to do all properly. Highlight meals were in the Deckchair Cafe for Eggs and avocado for breakfast, and a handmade pizza cooked in an old school bus (Gustos). Very friendly town and exceptionally clean and tidy. Coastal scenery is spectacular. The Boat cruise offers a lot of bird watching opportunities together with some tag along Dolphins. Great way to spend an afternoon. Weather is changeable being right on the SW tip of the country. We had a mx of light drizzle, overcast and fun sun over three days. Scones and jam at the Lighthouse Cafe are worth a long drive,
We have been to Augusta many, many times. For the first timer, it is a jewel in the southwest for caves, coastal scenery, beautiful beaches, fishing and access to major wine region and magnificent forests. Augusta is a quiet village type town which has not been spoilt by over development.
Augusta
The location was spot on for someone wanting to get away from it all. A little gem set back off the road.Wake up to the kookaburras and sit on the verandah watching the fairy wrens and more. Five minute drive to the beach and ten minutes to Augusta. Host Tony excellent communication, thank you.
