Steve was a fantastic host and very hospitable. He even lent me a bike to ride along the foreshore and recommended going to the war memorial which was very interesting. If you are passing through cardwell and need a place to stay or just wanting anice couple quiet days away from the norm, this is it.

Located in Bedarra Island, Bedarra Beach House has self-catering accommodations with a patio and free WiFi. Guests staying at this vacation home can use the fully equipped kitchen and a balcony. From the moment we met Adele and Stuart and stepped onboard our water taxi for Bedarra, we knew we were in for a treat. We have never seen such a beautiful jewel of an island. The welcome from Rob and Marion was wonderfully warm. The house itself is simply spectacular and left us wanting for nothing. Swimsuits and bare feet were the order of the day, and a kayak and snorkeling equipment were provided. The views from the deck were AMAZING. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Located in South Mission Beach, the 4-star, adults-only Taihoa Holiday Units Adults Only boast a saltwater swimming pool, BBQ facilities and a sunny terrace with views of Dunk Island, Bedarra Island... Great location on the beach and ideal base to explore there area especially with close proximity to beach for walking. James was excellent host who provided advise and information for our stay, and very understanding when arrival was delayed. Unit was fully equipped for meals preparation and lazy days.
Cardwell is a lovely place, but this hotel let us down, when I contacted the hotel they advised they knew the room was dirty but offered at our next stay (never going to happen) we would get a professional cleaned room and a discount because of the horrid situation we had endured. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone especially at the cost of it.
Not the most interesting area, cardwell spa pools were pretty but weren't allowed in as stagnant, loads of great 4WD tracks though! More or less only 1 pub. Art Gallery is worth a visit. Markets are nice.
Cardwell has a very nice rest area on the main street which we used travelling south and because of this we decided to stay the night on our return journey north. On an overcast day there was only one outside booking left for dinner at the Beachcomber motel they suggested the courtesy van to the Marine Hotel for dinner which was a fantastic meal.
Cardwell is known to us and it was our choice to stay overnight on our way to Cairns. The accommodation was great and the food at the United Service Station was very good. A nice little town that has now re built after cyclone Yasi. The facilities and shops are great.
We love Cardwell for fishing around Hinchinbrook Island. We weren't so lucky with the weather this time but when the weather is good it is amazing! Hinchinbrook Island is fascinating, it reminds me of Jurassic Park!
My reason for visiting Cardwell this time was to visit an old fella in age care. Having said that there is still a lot to do and see in and around the area, For first time visitors a look into the Information centre next to the jetty in the middle or town is a good start. Food wise the Beachcomber Restaurant on the waterfront to Jesse's Cardwell Pie's in the rest area at the south end of town. Historic telegraph station, local art gallery both in the southern end of town, I could go on but that's info centre's job.
