Great city, just enough of everything!
Great city, just enough of everything! Good shopping, nice restaurants and a beautiful Marina. Good entertainment on the weekends, usually always something going on in the city. Loads of accommodation to choose from too.Western - Scored 1010
Trip to Mackay Harbour was fantastic.
Trip to Mackay Harbour was fantastic. Purchased fish and chips at the Marina and drove out along the breakwall and enjoyed dinner sitting on the rocks watching the ocean. The marina was full of boats of all sizes. Canelands shopping centre in the city had plenty of great shops as did the city centre. Plenty of great cafes and restaurants to choose from, Drove to Hay Point Coal Terminal lookout which was fascinating.

Lovely city on the Pioneer river with walkways along its front. Beautiful Botanic Gardens. So many beautiful beaches not too far north. However, we felt that the city centre itself was a bit dead. Our main reason for coming to this area was the scenery in the surrounding districts which are magnificent!! The tropical forests walks in National parks. Searching for platypus, dugongs!! Beautiful beach walks etc!!

Mackay is wonderful! Everything is close by. In the City area, plenty of shops, galleries etc to wander into and have a look. Just a walking distance is the large, nice shopping centre Caneland. Don't forget the waterfront! Walk across the bridge and the southside shoreline. AND the northern side is beaches. Please check them out. Beautiful, stunning.AAnonymous - Scored 8.08.0
Great place to stay.
Great place to stay. Not far from our accomadation we had great restaurants. Vietnamese/ Thai/Greek/ Italian and Indian all on one intersection and a German Bavarian 500 mtr walk as well. The river walk is great and we bicycled the 20km bike track along main beach and the river.

We didn’t stay in Mackay, but chose to stay at the Dolphin Heads Resort about 10kms out of Mackay. A very picturesque beach, there is an amazing old pub on the headland with the most beautiful view. We had dinner at the Resort Restaurant, and a very comfortable, quiet and enjoyable one night stay at the Resort. Well priced and the staff were welcoming and friendly. We will indeed stay there again and recommend this place to all.CassandraAustralia
