It was my first time to Townsville and I was really impressed. Better than cairns and port Douglas in my opinion, cheaper, less tourists and a lot to do. Having a car is the best bet as the place to be is The Strand, but the newer and better accommodation options are in the Palmer St precinct (5 mins drive to The Strand). Weather was perfect and magnetic island is a great add on or day trip. Best place for food and coffee on the Strand was The Spirited Goat. The butcher next to the Coles just off the strand is Elite.JessAustralia - Scored 6.06.0

The winter weather in Townsville is fabulous. Clear skies, low 20s temperature and low humidity make it a lovely place to be outdoors. If you're a tourist staying down close to the city, during the day if you don't go out to the reef, I found that there is very little else to do around the city. The main street - Flinders Street - towards the casino only comes alive at night when the restaurants open. During the day it s quite deserted as is the part of Flinders Street where the majority of shops are. Many shops are empty and look to have been that way for some time. The main shopping areas are out in the suburbs in shopping centres. The Strand is lovely as is the Casino with great cafes and restaurants.

Townsville is good looking city in a beautiful natural setting. It's just a not-too-long ferry ride away from the beautiful Magnetic Island. Castle Hill gives great views of the city, Magnetic Island and the area. Townsville seems like a mini metropolis with more interests than most regional towns, including nature, sport, the arts and entertainment.

Been to Townsville a few times, mostly for Supercars racing in July. Easy to get around when driving, although, bus transport is a little underwhelming. Plenty to see & do. We stayed at Rambuttan Hotel, everything food & drink is there & exceptional quality. Friendliest staff ever. (we are in our sixties & been around a bit). I only visit Townsville to catch up with family. The Strand is a great place to cool down with the kids, but apart from that I would stick to the outskirts. Blue Water and Bushland Beach are nice areas.AAnonymous - Scored 1010

The bed was very comfortable and made up with nice clean white sheets. We were located on 6th floor with good views over South Townsville. The breakfast had variety for most tastes.
