A quaint town with lots of choices (even during COVID restrictions) for dining (take out), boutique shops, and history. Diksmuide has delicious local butter, cheeses, beers, etc. It is a nice place to visit in addition the the bigger cities of Ypres, Brugge, and various Belgian beach towns. In Duiksmuide, there were trails for kids and adults for walking, biking, etc.
Diksmuide is a small town located about 40 min drive from Brugge. It is very well positioned if you intend to visit both Brugge and Dunkerque and also other areas. It has in its neighborhood a lot of WWI sites as the Dodegang, beeing the last existing Belgian trench fortifications and other interesting places.
This is such a beautiful house in a beautiful location. Half hour from Ieper, the poppy trail and WW1 Cemeteries it was perfect for our visit. The house is lovely, comfy beds and cozy lounge. The wood burner in the longe and fresh eggs from the chickens in the garden were a highlight! As a party of eight sometimes space is a premium but staying here was a dream. Plenty of space for all of us. We would book again in a heartbeat.
Since we didn't expect much from the city, we were amazed how clean it was, relaxed people, lots of good restaurants and a large pedestrian area. Bonus points for the free-to-use bicycle pump on the town square. Extra bonus points for the view from the top of Yser tower. Do not miss it!
Lovely town with much to see in the local area. Unfortunately we stayed on the night when most of the eating places were closed but we had a lovely pizza and snacks at a local bar, along with some excellent local beers.
We had walked eighteen miles, with backpacks, on a very sunny day, so were more than happy to arrive at the hotel! The location was great - within easy walking distance of restaurants, bars etc. (Not that we were fit to walk very far.) The rooms were immaculate and comfortable. Breakfast was very good, with plenty choice. By far the biggest asset of the hotel is the owner, Pauline. She was so helpful and friendly, and couldn't do enough to make our brief stay enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.
