It's a well organized city in the mountains. I suggest that visitors book a hotel in the center of the city. Walking around to the tourist spots is lovely! The people are really kind and helpful. Eat at small restaurants along the street. The waitresses will be happy to help you order local food. It's fairly easy to get around. For solo travelers I suggest walking around, interacting with the locals and keeping some spare cash to indulge in small food shops and restaurants along the way. Cafe ambience has a good reputation. It's a good place to hangout for solo travelers
The cleanliness in the city, in fact, entire Bhutan is outstanding. The vehicle traffic very disciplined. People very courteous and helping. The nature amazing. The Buddha Point is the best spot of the city. The food is excellent. It's easy to get around the city in taxi but fares are little high.
The great feeling of driving on the roads of Thimpu is that of traffic discipline and excellent parking facilities all along the City. During the entire rounds of the city , i had never come across one vehicle honking. That's something i wish to talk about and found it out of this world experience. All along Bhutan , i found zebra crossings for pedestrians and these crossings are respected by one and all. Excellent footpaths on both sides of the roads without any hindrances for a clean walk. The immigration process and permit was much faster than that of Pheutsholing and are very co-operative in information. Great architecture monuments and builldings greet us all along the city. I only wish the Airport was a bit nearer to the city , anyways the route to Paro airport is simply superb.
Big Buddha point is the best. I also love simply Bhutan. I was also visited national memorial chorten, simtoka dzong, tashichho dzong view point, national textile museum. I love clock tower thimphu city. It's the way to time pass in evening and early night.
Thimphu is a nice town. Too much construction is happening and hence too much of dust on the road. The market is good. Food is good. Nice town to walk around. Many important tourist places are within a radius of 1 km and can be easily reachable on foot.
Great place with an equal measure of nature and city life. For nature lovers - There are many nature trails for hikers like the phajoding trek and trek upto the sangaygang view point. Cultural places to visit - a) Taschicho Dzong (entry timings - 5.30 - 6.30 pm), b) Simply Bhutan (a Bhutanese tradition and lifestyle experience) or Folk Heritage Museum (can go to either one- difference is simply bhutan comes with a guide and charges 300/person, whereas Folk heritage museum doesnot provide guide and charges 50/person) c) Buddha Dordemna d) Changankha Lakhang e) Textile Museum d) Postal Museum (can print your own stamps which can be used for posts in bhutan) Off-beat places to visit - a) Institute of Zhorig Chusum (institute where students practice different skillsets like painting, wood carving, metal works, clay sculpture, etc. b) Jungshi handmade paper factory (nominal entry charge, its store has some good deals) c) National Library (houses the world's biggest book) d) Ludrong Memorial garden (just behind the Taschicho Dzong) and a great place to relax amidst flowers in bloom Nightlife - Mojo Park (weekend music acts), The Zone (very nice pub), Ama's (karoake), Space club, space club, 34 ace club (nightclubs) Eateries - Zombala 2 (bhutanese cuisine, must try - momos, datshi, Thupka), Ambient Cafe (coffee), Karma's dhaba (Indian) City life - Centenary park and clocktower square. Evenings can be spent watching players playing archery, volleyball and football in the nearby grounds to the clock square, Tibetan Market (to buy handicrafts and souvneirs at nominal price), Weekend Farmer's Market
Hotel was great with very clean rooms and good facilities. Good heating of room. Plenty of hot water always available. The city center is vey close and there are plenty of souvenir shops around there.
First and foremost the location. Right in the center of the city, very near to the Clock Tower. Rooms with a view of the mountains are great value for money.
Good hotel at good location . Facilities we're good and value for money. Staff was courteous.
