Ucluelet is lovely. I would love to go there again. Unfortunately due to a bad experience with a hotel operator there we have decided not to return. It really is a shame when one short sighted business man ruins an otherwise lovely place to go.

The walking trails around Ucluelet are lovely, but short and very busy. You can do pretty much all of them in one day if you're a walker. There's a great hike up Mt Ozzard if you're looking for something more challenging with fewer people, with great views at the top. We visited in August and it was only around 16 degrees, so we didn't spend too long on beaches. The scenery is beautiful, though you do also need to like fog/mist. There are some very nice cafes (the Break and the Heartwood Kitchen in particular) but I would suggest googling reviews before trying any. In terms of shops, there's a mix of tourist/souvenir stuff and more interesting art/lifestyle boutiques. Different shops/cafe close on different days, so familiarise yourself with opening hours to avoid disappointment. You can walk from one end of the main town road to the other in around 20 mins. There's also the harbour area with a few shops and cafes. There's whale watching, kayaking, bear watching and fishing trips, though these aren't cheap and there are no discounts for using the same company multiple times. Most importantly: the lighthouse has a foghorn attached and whenever it's foggy the horn sounds every 20 seconds, including through the night which is when it's mostly foggy. We visited in August and the horn blew through the night at least 50% of our week-long stay. So if you can't sleep through a foghorn, this may not be the place for you to stay. But it's definitely worth a day or two's visit. The fog obviously limits views during the daytime, and can give the place a dreary feel, though when we were there it tended to dissipate by lunchtime-ish.

Great west coast scenery and the town is quaint. A must see is the Lighthouse walk. If you cannot walk far, you can always access the Lighthouse information centre to learn about the area and the history.

We loved Ucluelet , very friendly people amazing views everywhere , the Pacific trail is awesome and very easy to walk, Wickaninnish Visitor center is great friendly and informative and the beach is amazing and there is no charge to park in the National Park from June 19-September 2026 Definitely wish we had a week to take it all in but we totally enjoyed our 3 days Great Rock crab burger at Hollers Family restaurant. The catch and release aquarium is really great, very easy to see the diversity of our ocean sea life up close ,super stocked staff ready to answer all your questions. The town is very clean and has lots of beaches a great Co-op grocery store lots of shops. Loved it, worth the tricky winding road to get there. Take your time the road is really winding and narrow make sure you have a full tank of gas when you leave Port Alberni and Enjoy the scenery.

We were very much at home in this cozy and comfortable townhouse. It was perfect for our needs and we loved the location. We appreciated the fine homey touches and especially enjoyed the local Foggy Bean coffee that was provided by the host. The beds and pillows were outstanding! We all agreed they were 5 star hotel quality! We were given a front row view to the massive eagle's nest across the street and were kept entertained right from our front door watching the impressive bald eagle parents taking turns protecting and tending to their nest. The hot tub was so relaxing and just what was needed after hiking the breathtaking Wild Pacific Trail. We enjoyed many of the local eateries including the best ever slow smoked meat sandwich at Cedar and Salt, a delicious homestyle breakfast at Heartwood and special mention to Neptune's for their amazing fresh oysters (Crystal was so nice to lend us her oyster shucker…I mean, who does that?!… a local Ukee does!!). And for everything and everywhere else in between, it was all fabulous.

What I like most about Ucluelet is the intimate size and local history of this Coastal Fishing Village. The Ucluelet Aquarium is a delight for families esp. those with young children. Ate pizza from Shipwreck Pizza and breakfast both at The Barcley and Black Rock Resort/Hotel. Every meal was delicious. Touring the Amphritite Lighthouse Presentation Centre is always fascinating to learn about The Graveyard of the Pacific.
