We slept next to the sea for three nights. Gabrielle the owner will make you feel at home and look after you well. This is a place were you can totally unwind and relax. Beers and food here are good and fairly priced compared to the rest of the beach. We did the night time plankton tour from the hotel it was the best plankton we had ever seen. The water is amazing and warm, the beach is well looked after and there is plenty of room to relax on sun beds/hammocks. Me and my partner stayed here for three nights and had a n amazing time. Showers are fresh water each day from buckets but we didn’t mind this and it added to the authenticity of it all. The place runs off a generator at night time so you can charge phones ect. There is no WiFi which was a treat. You can also use snorkelling equipment from the hotel free of charge and snorkel off the beach. If you want the beach pretty much to yourselves try and head here Monday to Friday and avoid weekends, as it gets a lot busier with local tourists on weekends. We paid 50,000 COP for a return bus from Cartagena to this beach Playa Blanca, however you can also take a boat for a similar price. On the beach make sure you haggle for EVERYTHING!!! The cheapest drinks and food are from the people selling you stuff on the beach. This place has a sense of being off the beaten track (the gringo trail) we met few gringos on this beach. All I can say is I hope you enjoy as much as we did! Thanks guys for an amazing and unforgettable stay.
Featuring an outdoor swimming pool, Urantia Hostel is set in Barú Island and also provides a garden and terrace. With free WiFi, this hostel offers a shared kitchen. And here is why: If you look for a comfortable experience, or you long for the feeling of being home it is a perfect “escape” from the regular travel experience. To start with the basics needs, this hostel (let’s call it a second home, because you walk straight into a big family), it has everything. Hygiene is on point, the food is prepared with love everyday (this is optional, you can cook by yourself if you want, but then you miss the diner with the whole staff), and so are the little extra’s in the house like airco, a proper toilet and shower and for the rainy days (what is rain again) a gameconsole (with fifa). Off course you’ll choose this place to eventually go to playa Blanca. While you as well can choose to wake up at the beach, for not really much more there is only a beach within a free 15 min ride (in the morning and after sunset), and you have everything from the above. As well for the internet, it is hard to get proper WiFi on the island because of, well, island. But still they’ve managed to get proper WiFi in the living room and around the pool. Just good for sharing those pool pictures with an aguila next to you and your legs tanning in the picture. And good enough to realize that it’s good to quit the internet for a while. A place so comfortable to hang out, before you know it you have a lounge named after you.
Casa Porto Do Son in Baru, located just 5 minutes boat ride from the Atlantic Ocean, features an outdoor swimming pool, private parking. Everything. This house is amazing. Luz and Luis are the housekeepers and they are great! The swimming pool is awesome and there's a private beach 5 minutes away by boat. Luis will gladly take you there, you only need to pay ~$10 for gas. This stay was the highlight of our trip. Highly recommended!
