I stayed a few days in Cordoba in winter which was just the right amount of time as although there were many places to visit during the day, the night life was quiet. I imagine it would be a lot more lively in summer. I loved walking through the Mezquita and the Alcazar palace with its amazing gardens. The Jewish quarter was interesting. I also loved the concept of patios. I was always curious to see what was behind the front door of the houses and would have loved to have been in Cordoba during the time of the festival of the patios which i think is in April?? One thing I was talked into doing was visiting the Banos Arabes. i was so glad i went-it was a wonderful experience. I felt as if i had really been transported back in time. We were given bathers and a towel and could luxuriate in the warm pool or the salt pool, followed by a massage and mint tea. Very well worth the experience!!!!
There were so many historical places to visit. Each one so different from the previous one. It is a magnificent city and caters for everyone. We were recommended certain restaurants but often by night time we were very tired and tended to make do with the tapas bars where we ate varied and very delicious items. It is extremely easy to get round Cordoba. The tourist buses are excellent and although a bit pricey you can use the so many times and go from place to place. We used taxis as well and drivers were extremely helpful. They also gave us ideas of things to do. Only one thing I might avoid on next visit and that was taking an open bus early morning. It was very cold but the commentary and the driver kept us informed and helped us choose the places we would visit on the next tour. The big buses went on a different route so it was difficult to find the places we wanted to visit but with the help of a map we managed.
This city is just amazing in January, it is the quiet time of the year, just how we like to see a place, not full of tourists. The people of Còrdoba are lovely, the food is a pleasure, and getting around on foot is easy, there is a small vegetarian breakfast bar "Arbolito" opposite the hotel, and a great local bar round the corner. the area seems normal and not so touristy. So far our favourite Spanish city, everywhere one looks is a pleasure! go to the market off Plaza Corredera where you can buy fresh prawns and they will cook it for you!
I visited Cordoba first in 2000. Revisiting it for a bit longer was always on my list. The Mezquita is a world-class Must-See. For anyone interested in history & architecture don't miss Cordoba. The old city is walkable. The Bellas Artes museum is good for a rainy morning. The Jewish quarter is the most charming. Don't miss it. We didn't get to visit the Medina Azhara (8 km). Be sure to allow morning departure for this amazing site. There is an affordable bus that only leaves Cordoba in the AM. Our hotel advised that a taxi was too costly for an afternoon visit. Next time! We dined at restos nearby our hotel. I had a very good entrecote for 16EU. City bus (#3) from train station left us very near our hotel. 1.20 EU.
Cordoba has this beautiful Mezquita, which is a must visit! It is very easy to get around as the old city is not big. On our way to train station we stopped at Mercado Victoria which offers a lot of tapas and wine. It was a nice experience as it is a very live place and a lot of choices of tapas!
Cordoba in January is perfect: sunny, no time spent in lines to visit the main objectives, a lot a places to eat or have a drink in the warm sun, lots of people in the streets, lots of terraces heated during evenings. Don’t forget your sun glasses and your sneakers and forget about boots and snow.
The staff in reception, especially Cruz, were so very attentive and kind since I have a badly sprained ankle and tendon... they bent over backwards to help me out. Never had hotel staff so caring and gracious!
