I stayed a few days in Cordoba in winter which was just the right amount of time as although there were many places to visit during the day, the night life was quiet. I imagine it would be a lot more lively in summer. I loved walking through the Mezquita and the Alcazar palace with its amazing gardens. The Jewish quarter was interesting. I also loved the concept of patios. I was always curious to see what was behind the front door of the houses and would have loved to have been in Cordoba during the time of the festival of the patios which i think is in April?? One thing I was talked into doing was visiting the Banos Arabes. i was so glad i went-it was a wonderful experience. I felt as if i had really been transported back in time. We were given bathers and a towel and could luxuriate in the warm pool or the salt pool, followed by a massage and mint tea. Very well worth the experience!!!!
There were so many historical places to visit. Each one so different from the previous one. It is a magnificent city and caters for everyone. We were recommended certain restaurants but often by night time we were very tired and tended to make do with the tapas bars where we ate varied and very delicious items. It is extremely easy to get round Cordoba. The tourist buses are excellent and although a bit pricey you can use the so many times and go from place to place. We used taxis as well and drivers were extremely helpful. They also gave us ideas of things to do. Only one thing I might avoid on next visit and that was taking an open bus early morning. It was very cold but the commentary and the driver kept us informed and helped us choose the places we would visit on the next tour. The big buses went on a different route so it was difficult to find the places we wanted to visit but with the help of a map we managed.
The Mosque was breathtaking. It was only 8euros for the entrance fee. The horse and cart ride around the city - 45euros for four people. You could also get a hop on hop off bus for two days for 17euros per person. Did not get to see the Palace - so will visit next time. Found the streets, tapas bars and restaurants fantastic, and certainly well priced as we stay in Spain for three months of the winter in the costa del sol so they are certainly comparable. Would certainly go again and would stay in this hotel again as we couldnt have chosen better. Absolutely excellent. We were also recommended by the Hotel Manager the Bar Sojo which is along the front, opposite the other bridge, where you take the lift to the third floor for the most spectacular view over Cordoba. Fabulous
The highlight of our trip was definitely La Mezquita. It was beautiful and surreal, we loved the history of the city. We recommend that you join the Cordoba's free tour. It gave us an overview of what the city has to offer so you can plan where to visit after. Our tour guide, Christina, was a history student at the local university and she was amazing; not only that she showed us the sights but gave us historical details of the city and its visit-worthy sites. We also loved strolling the alleys of the Jewish quarter, soaking in the life and spirit of this quaint city.
This city is just amazing in January, it is the quiet time of the year, just how we like to see a place, not full of tourists. The people of Còrdoba are lovely, the food is a pleasure, and getting around on foot is easy, there is a small vegetarian breakfast bar "Arbolito" opposite the hotel, and a great local bar round the corner. the area seems normal and not so touristy. So far our favourite Spanish city, everywhere one looks is a pleasure! go to the market off Plaza Corredera where you can buy fresh prawns and they will cook it for you!
Córdoba has a small historic centre that is easily explored on foot, la Mezquita rivals the Alhambra for wow factor and has this amazing fusion of Muslim and Catholic cultures. Also a must to sample are the local wines, restaurants both tapas and fine dining, and a large shopping area
The staff were so friendly and attentive, Jose was fantastic, they really made a different . Lovely pool and great location - taxi only 5€ to all the places we wanted to see! Nice breakfast, all safety standard adhered to!
The staff in reception, especially Cruz, were so very attentive and kind since I have a badly sprained ankle and tendon... they bent over backwards to help me out. Never had hotel staff so caring and gracious!
