The birthplace of Picasso is as colorful as an artists palette, from the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea to the golden sun, which gives 300 days of sunshine per year. When the sun sets, the vibrant nightlife awakens and youll find your place among the youthful square of the old center, the trendy bars of La Malagueta or on one of the terraces of Pedregalejo.
There's also rich history underneath the sun and fun. Alcazaba is a Moorish castle from the 11th century and just next to it are the remnants of a Roman Theatre. The white stone tower of the Malaga Cathedral rises up in the heart of the city centre, and offers an interesting respite from sun bathing on the magnificent and popular beaches.
A more modern history can be appreciated by visiting the birthplace of Picasso and a museum full of exhibitions by Malaga 's most famous resident. A more relaxed Spanish city than Madrid and Barcelona, Malaga is still the gateway to the Costa del Sol and the busy Malaga Airport is only 6 miles from the center of town.
From budget hostels to 5-star luxury hotels, with Booking.com you're sure to find the perfect place to stay for your sunny vacation.

Malaga is lovely.
Malaga is lovely. The old town is beautiful to walk around and there is lots to see. The castles are well worth visiting. The harbour area is also lovely. We hired bikes and cycled up the coast. The routes both east and west of Malaga are lovely. We found the local people both friendly and helpful. The seafood restaurants east of Malaga on the coast are very authentic and good value. We found some of the restaurants in the city overpriced and the food less appetising however.

I have been to Malaga several times, and I love the historical center, which is vibrant and lovely both day and night. There are shops, restaurants, museums, and pedestrian streets—most of the things you can expect from a nice and compact old town!
On the other hand, I also love places near Malaga. I definitely recommend Mijas, a mountain village on the way to Marbella (30–40 minutes by car). It's beautiful and a great representative of the Pueblo Blancos of Andalucía. Of course, Marbella's old town is also elegant and very attractive (only 50–60 minutes by car from Malaga). Marbella's old town offers many charming, winding streets for walking, making it feel like visiting a tourist village filled with restaurants and shops within a city (Malaga old town doesn't provide this village setting!). The Dali sculptures near the main beach also add to Marbella's appeal.
I can also recommend Estepona, which is 60–70 minutes from Malaga; however, if you're short on time, you can skip it since Mijas and Marbella offer almost everything Estepona does. If you have time, you might also consider visiting Gibraltar as a day trip from Malaga!

Malaga retains its Spanish character.
Malaga retains its Spanish character. The center and old town are lovely, there are several pedestrian areas and the city is well laid out for bicycles and has good public transport. It feels very safe. We took a trip to El Caminito del Rey in the mountains, which was stunning.

Malaga is a big city with the historic touristic old town and a big modern shopping and commercial area surrounding it. It has very good infrastructure and public transport. I now avoid the high season visits out of respect for the locals who complain about over tourism and the associated problems, but out of season it is a good venue if you act responsibly.

Malaga was a pleasant surprise.
Malaga was a pleasant surprise. We passed through on our way to another part of Spain having arrived at the airport, but made sure we had 36 hours on our way back to the airport. It’s a lovely city (especially the old part). Bustling, interesting (Picasso’s birth place) and with character. I’m not sure if it was because of the wet weather, but the queues for the places of interest were huge. We gave up on the Picasso museum. So beware - plan your trip in advance!

This was my third visit to this hotel and had a very large double room with a balcony, with good views of the city. As always the room was clean and comfortable, and the location is ideal for visiting both the old and new parts of Malaga, with neither being more than a 5 minute walk away. The marina area although not close to the hotel was only a 10 minute (maximum) walk away through the old town.
We needed a hotel close to airport after travelling through Spain. We tried to avoid the British hotspots so were anxious about staying in Malaga. This place was an oasis if calm with still things to keep children more than busy. Pool is great and clean with great access to a clean beach.
lovely small hotel with a great location. 10min walk to the old town and the marina and 5min walk to the beach. Airport bus stops a 3min walk away, and the small rooftop pool is perfect for a quick dip to cool off. Couldn’t have asked for more for the price i paid. Would 100% stay again.
Excellent location in the old town of Malaga, any number of coffee shops, tapas bars/restaurants nearby as well as very good on site facilities. Hotel is clean and comfortable and we found our room quiet during the night. Very nice swimming pool on the rooftop.
Excellent location for the old town of Malaga. Close to museums, plenty of great restaurants and tapas nearby by.
Team at the hotel were exceptional, they were friendly and ready to help. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
