The Hotel Athena is located in the Alpine resort town of Brides-les-Bains. The hotel offers en-suite guestrooms, satellite TV and balconies with views of the mountains. The breakfast was decent, nice fresh croissants, baguette & pain au chocolat, but a little on the expensive side for what it was - the charge is listed as €12, but an additional €3 in tax is added to charge a total of €15. The bakery up the steps at the start of the main street represents better value for money, and has a greater variety of options. The bakery also sells coffee.

I have stayed all over 3 Vallees for 30years. Catered Chalet/Hotels/SC. Brides is a great little village for those who aren’t going for nightlife/apres-ski and just want to chill/sleep after long hard day on snow. Free car parking in village. Food/meals and equipment hire is cheaper than resorts. Olympic lift is extremely efficient. Yes it takes 20mins but it’s relaxing after the morning struggle to get up/ready! Views are great and often see wildlife below. No complaints except that it should be open in the evenings until late! Will def stay in Brides again.
Honestly I will not go back to this hotel, we were 6 persons two adult and 4 childrens. They give us two rooms next to each other. One double size bedroom with double bed and folding bed, you squeeze to pass. The other one was big single bed with double bed and folding bed. We complain, but they did not change us. When we arrived they wanted to charging us for breakfast and I argued about that and they agreed, as we booked including breakfast for all six, but they tried to charge us for the extra two children as they claimed that the price they charge was for 4 people not 6. Every day we have to ask for the tea bag even though this should be basic for 4 star hotel.
The best thing is the value for money. You are skiing the 3 valley's, the accommodation is at least twice the size of anything of the same price up in the resorts. There is far better availability of accommodation and Internet is available everywhere. Some people may not like the half an hour gondola ride up to Meribel, but it didn't bother me, the days are long enough. I went in February and there was hardly ever a queue for this gondola. This gondola can fit 6 people and was often in it alone. Beware of leaving to late for the return from Meribel though. I got on just in time on the last day.
Quiet spa town a little lacking in variety of bars and restaurants. A cheaper option than staying in the 3 valleys main resorts. If you are willing to accept the 30 minutes gondola in to Meribel (which worked well) then a good option.
Nice place to stop, if you are tighted in budget, but plan to ski in 3 valleys. There are evthing you might need: ski rent, pharmacy, spar, several restaurants, small park. The only thing, which is quite uncomfortable, is time to get to 3 valleys by gondola: ~25min. Personally i got a bit tired going up for 20+ minutes.
Very compact town with plenty of places to eat and drink. Well stocked small spar supermarket and cash point just opposite. There's quite a steep walk up to the gondola which takes 25 minutes to get to Meribel although you can hire a ski locker at the gondola station which is well wort it.
Brides-les-Bains
Very nice location: 2 min to the shop, 7 min to Olympia cabin. Lot of places to eat around. The hotel is quite old and may be needs some renovation, but perfectly clean and nicely equipped. Staff is really nice. Room for 4 persons is big and clean. The kitchen is big and you have everything for cooking. Lots of pillows and warm blankets, it's great! Hamam is small, but quite nice, Jakuzzi is cute, but sometimes smells with clorine (disinfectant). Massage chairs working good.
Warm comfortable room. Very nice breakfast. Good parking. Staff very friendly and helpful. They made me a special vegetarian option as part of their fixed price evening meal menu :) We didn't use it, but good to see there was a sauna on offer at the hotel, open from 4 pm each day. Although the hotel was very busy the room was surprisingly quiet. And the bells in the nearby church only ring twice a day, so do not disturb guests!
Food at dinner was great. Spa was a nice touch, but often was out of clean towels so we had to bring from upstairs. Also, only open 3 hours a day (5-8pm) which is a bit odd, considering most restaurants close at 9 so we had to choose between spa and eating at a reasonable time.
Brides-les-Bains
The convenience cannot be understated. being able to roll out of bed in the morning make breakfast, then be on the slopes 45 min later, taking Olympia gondola. Then having a grocery store (Spar) literally a block away made things even easier for making meals at the apartment.
The restaurant was the only thing that justified the 4 stars that the hotel claims to have. The service, variety and quality of the food were the only thing that stood out and exceeded our expectations.
Brides-les-Bains
Great location in a lovely village. Big upstairs living space and balcony (very sunny). All amenities on doorstep. Friendly host and the local bars and restaurants were good.
Paid quite a bit extra for twin bedroom via booking .com-- the staff at the hotel maintained i had booked a double -- then charged an extra hundred pounds.
Third stay here. Great hotel in Brides les Bains close to the Olympic gondala. Breakfast is excellent and sets me up for the day's skiing.
Great hotel, fab location, lovely staff. Rooms a little dated in decor, but hotel priced accordingly. Would go back again without any doubt s
It was my third time at this hotel. The property is right next to the Gondola. Friendly staff and great breakfast with local products.
The hotel is in a perfect location for the gondola. Food was excellent. Staff are really friendly
