The hosts were genuinely kind and caring. Went the extra mile to provide us with supper and wine at an excellent rate. An amazing locality, house, garden, medieval village close. Superb food and ambience. Hope to visit again!

Le Presbytere is a 19th-Century property set in a 8-hectare park, located in Saint-Bômer-les-Forges and just 4.3 mi north of Domfront. It offers a guest lounge and a selection of books. Absolutely marvelous B & B. Renovations of the house are excellent, and it is a modern facility while maintaining the old world charm of a rural French farmhouse. The hosts are truly charming folks who are honestly concerned that you have an excellent stay at their property. Will absolutely be returning when I'm in that area.

The village of Domfront is charming with a small medieval section that still remains at the top of the hill. The remains of the old castle are fun to wander around. We were the only people there the first week of May so we roamed around the castle grounds for over an hour. There is a small park for kids on the castle grounds. The views over the Domfront countryside are stunning - the river, the fields, the hedgerows and the ever changing backdrop of clouds make for some dramatic pictures. You can get a self-guided walking tour map from the tourist office at the top of the hill and walk around the medieval section for about an hour. We ate lunch at a little pizzeria and dinner at the auberge and the food was fine. Make sure to see the 13th century medieval church in the valley. We spent 5 days just outside of Domfront so that we could enjoy the area at a leisurely pace. Visited lots of poire (cidre made from pears instead of apples) tasting rooms - the area is known for its AOP Domfront Poire which is really refreshing and champagne-like. Don't miss the new Poire Museum (there are signs just outside of Domfront pointing you to the museum - La Musee de Poire). The Museum has a tasting room and a small store that carries products from all the local poire producers. The heritage orchard walk at the Poire Musuem is pretty (you'll be amazed at all the birds singing) and the small museum gives you a good history of the art of making cidre and poire. I'm told there a lots of second hand stores and vide-greniers (estate sellers) in the area but we didn't have time to go to any. Next time!
Charming medieval town, easy to walk around in an hour or so. Pretty views. Shops and many restaurants closed on Sundays and Mondays. The park with remains of chateau was very interesting and well documented. Meal at Bistrot St Julien was excellent.
Great Medieval town with tons of character. Not crowded in late May. Weather was a bit storming during out trip, which reduced our time in town. However, we were able to make several short trips to the surrounding areas which were likewise fabulous to visit.
Domfront is suffering from some depopulation and vacant buildings in its old town center. Luckily a great restaurant is still open. The historic donjon site is well maintained and looking impressive.

On arrival the hotel looked to be locked up and closed which was a surprise, but on calling the contact number we established that the reception was down the road slightly located at the side of the local Grill. A sign depicting this would have been a help. The staff were friendly and helpful and our meal in the Grill that evening was nice. Our rooms were on the small side very little storage area and with a very small shower area and a separate toilet which appeared to be built into where wardrobes would have once been.

The peace and quiet was only interrupted by birdsong. The gite was the most wonderful cottage we have ever rented. Just a mile from Domfront, we walked into town and also walked down to the bike trail, only a half-mile from the gite. We had a fabulous time at Belle Vallee. Our host Victoria could not have been better.
