Beautiful scenic area, a lot is closed in the summer, but there is enough open for the essentials. A little tricky getting from town to town, very narrow winding roads! Not sure how it’s possible in the winter.
It just like ten years ago and still perfect place for freeriding. The area is pretty demanding and you do all kind of extreme there. You can feel that everyone is there for freeriding which makes it even better. The place is small and that adds to the feeling. When you go there you should really spend there a longer time than just a week. It takes a week to warmup.
La Grave is an amazing place. It had great skiing options (get a guide) and it still has retained its small town charm. There are several places to eat and the food is a relatively good. It's a truly special place that can't be missed.
The scenery is stunning and the location is perfect to enjoy the many activities of the area. Everyone we encountered in town weither shops, restaurants or other services were super helpful and friendly.
Great location in the heart of French alps, both for winter activities (with the greatest off-piste spot on La Meije) and during summer, with possibilities of rafting, hiking, mountaining for all levels -kids or experienced climbers. La Grave offers all the necessary facilities -restaurants, shops, mountain equipment...- but remains an authentic beautiful village. Don't expect 6 stars comfort or luxury hotels, but enjoy a place really dedicated to all the mountain lovers.
An amazing experience. I ate at the best restaurants with such amazing French food offered and the prices were very reasonable. There is also food served at different locations of the cable car hike tour, which was a great stop for lunch. The glazier tour in August was a welcome surprise and the tour guide was really knowledgeable and safety conscious. All staff we friendly and very helpful. A beautiful French treasure!
