The city of Lorient was flattened during World War 2 so all its buildings are postwar. A notable exception to the destruction is the submarine base with its immense concrete construction. There's a sort of irony that it was the reason for the bombing but largely impervious to it. The people are very friendly and hospitable. There's plenty of places to eat and drink and the many docks provide lots of interest. Just be aware that it closes completely on Sundays.
We only really drove through Lorient and wandered around for a bit. We went to the World War 2 submarine base K3 but the guided tour was all in French so we couldn't understand all of it but it was worth 6.20 Euro to see it. There are other attractions in that area including an actual submarine and a museum and places to eat. There are some lovely towns and villages in the local area, lots to explore . We had a very enjoyable boat trip from Pont- Aven. There are some beautiful beaches nearby.
UNFORTUNATLY I became ill and had to curtail my stay. However hotel kept all my fee for 2nights I had left of my stay I got no refund whatsoever not even for 1 of the nights.so I am not a happy person and less happy for my stay at escalate ocean hotel orient .
Lorient is a cute little Town but it has a lot to offer like good public transport Nice restaurants and friendly people, with Public transport (bus) its easy to go to The beach like Larmor Plage there u find a Nice beach with a lovely view:)
Unfortunately, there were a lot of roadworks going on. Also buses and cycles go straight across main roads. Hardly any signage for tourists to find the submarine base, had to use google maps and look for something nearby. City has homeless and drunk problem so not a very pretty town. It is very hard to get around Lorient. Best bit was leaving it.
A hidden gem with some delightful beaches, pretty harbor and good restaurants. For military history boffins has interesting walks along the submarine base from the Second World War, Submarine Museum etc. The Kaolin Way takes you along 9.4kms to Couregant by bike, wheelchair, horseback etc (no cars). Takes you down to the ocean and offers great views from the hills on the way back. Two Beautiful peaceful golf courses. (Ploemeur Ocean and Val Quevan) Beautiful beaches. Island of Groix - explore this gem of an island - most notably Grands Sables beach with crystal blu water and white sand - scuba, snorkle, swim. Francois LeBail nature reserve. There is so much to do here that the on-line surfer will never see! Guided hiking tours Sailing trips Skate Parks Surfing Morning Markets
It is situated within easy walking distance of the centre of Lorient, which has many cafes, and restaurants. The Breton pub just 90 yards away has excellent beer and food, and the Yachtman restaurant is a bib gourmand and also nearby. Parking was much easier than I had anticipated. The flat is well equipped, modern and quiet. The bed was fine. Easy to get to - just take the D465 to ile de Groix from the motorway or a no2 bus from the station. Even the submarine base is walkable (about 2.5km) or there's a bus.
The hotel is in a very convenient location for an appointment we had the day after arrival. The owners and staff were all very friendly and welcoming and advised us where to eat locally on arrival (Sunday evening so not a lot open nearby) and the choice was excellent. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the breakfast room very bright and inviting with a great choice. Hygiene is very important here with notices to guests, gel available on entry and the owners regularly using get when dealing with guests.
The hotel although being a budget one is clean and the staff are great. It is located in a quieter area within easy walking distance of the marina, bars and restaurants. The breakfast is simple but tasty and good value and there is a boulangerie a few doors away to buy lunch items from. The bus boats are useful to get across the inlets quickly and the people at the tourist information office nearby are very helpful.
Vanessa is super nice, very helpful The apartment is cristal clean, very luminous, spacious, well arranged and decorated, fully equipped for the wannabe cook. The apartment and the terrasse are quiet, the bed is super comfortable (let me sleeeeeep) The location is very central In Lorient My partner and I enjoyed the few days we spent here. I recommend! :-)
Great hotel stay. The room was perfect size and very clean bathroom. Cleanliness and covid protocols were evident and staff were able to easily explain the options for food given the restrictions at the time of the stay. Small tight streets, but a lot of free on-street parking available.
Close to restaurants and mall Staff were friendly and helpful. Car parking was free and easily accessible Morning meal facilities were good and atmosphere was relaxing. Older boutique hotel but limited accom availability in Lorient. Overall good to very good
Wd definitely stay again if coming to Lorient. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Tthe breakfast was pretty good too! For us arriving by train and deparing by boat from the marina at Port Plaisance, the location was perfect. Thankyou!
Very nice staff, comfortable bed. A small simple hotel, comfortable but not luxurious. Everything was clean, tidy, everything was fine. Its location is very good. Close to the port, market, shops.
Perfect apartment, the hosts are very kindly and attentive. The location is very easy from the station and the port of Lorient. I really have a nice time there!
Lorient
The room was immaculate, with gowns and slops for both of us to use. there was an air con, a TV, and an awesome little terrace to sit on (when the seats were dry. ) The bathroom was spotless.
