A typical French small town with beaches nearby. It is near to the Med and the Canal du Midi, but is quiet and there is plenty of free parking except perhaps on Tuesday mornings when the Market is on. Beware that public transport is poor although there is a good TGV from Paris or Lille to Agde which is nearby. Those who fly will find that Beziers Airport provides a bus service to Marseillan timed for most flights.
Perfect beaches. A busy tourist village with many options. Finding interesting things to do. Original (good) food to be found with a bit of effort (avoid standard mass-restaurants oriented for tourists, choose old, small establishments).
Marseillan is a very pretty, lively and varied harbourside town with lots of events from live music to jazz singers, musicians and excellent restaurants, shops and amenities. It has excellent public art, sculptures and water features and a range of attractive buildings, some very old and many very new. The light as dusk falls just has to be seen to be fully believed and its beautiful under a moon. It is an ideal base for flopping at the many beaches on the Mediterranean coast or for exploring the Carmargue or inland to Carcassone, Arles or Haute Languedoc.
Good clean beaches and sea. Good variety of shops and coffee bars. Pleasant sympathetic local people. If you have a cycle there are lots of interesting places to cycle to, for example, the village of Marseillan, to visit the Noilly Prat distillery, which is a revelation and the port itself is very pleasant, plus the oysters [grown locally in the Etang, opposite the port are fabulous. This is true France, even Rick Stein has been here.
The newly opened port is a marina with restaurants and bars serving delicious seafood. Beautiful old town with winding streets. Very pretty. Electric bikes can be hired to ride beside the salt lake. Boat trips to see the oyster tables. A quiet town ( in June).
This was our first visit to Marseillain and we will definitely come back in the future. It is a delightful laid back part of the South of France that took us back in time. Wonderful seafood available from the Bassin de Thau.
Natural surroundings, friendly staff and nice designed and spacious room.
