Hotel in Tour-de-Faure
Set in the Midi-Pyrenees countryside, this hotel is located on the banks of the River Lot. It features an outdoor swimming pool and a shaded terrace in the garden. This place really was so much better then I expected (and I already expected a lot). Very friendly staff, good breakfast, good location (near everything, beautiful surrounding). The pool was amazing with a nice view on a small mountain. We had a room directly at the pool which was really handy with the small children. I really recommend this hotel ! It was quiet but with a lot of stuff to do around. I would definitely go here again !
Indeed one of the most beautiful villages! Not all the stores and restaurants were open as my visit was in October which is not peak season but that wasn't an issue. There were still plenty of good restaurants to visit.
Loved Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. Wonderfully preserved small old village in a beautiful position high above the Lot river. We really only had one day so spent the morning exploring the town and in afternoon we drove to Bouzies and walked the first kilometer of the towpath back to St-Cirq-Lapopie, and we had a tour of Perche-Merle caves. Could have stayed much longer and spent more time exploring the village and the walking paths nearby. Could have also walked the whole towpath and got a boat for the return trip. Pleas note that Perch Merle caves which are amazing and well worth the visit need to be booked well in advance in summer, either on website which I found difficult, or by ringing which was easy. Dont be put off if you can only get a French speaking tour. They give you a booklet with all the information in English. Finally after we left St-Cirq-Lapopie we went south to Najac which is another bastide town and evn better preserved than St-Cirq-. Lapopie. Well worth a visit
We loved our visit to St Cirq Lapopie and had great weather so we enjoyed swimming in the river, as well as walking in the town and surrounds, plus visits to other nearby attractions, particularly Pech Merle. As you can tell from any photo it is quite a steep village and any visit will involve stairs
Truly historic feel to this medieval village. We did the river walk and climbed up to the village. Great views on the climb up across the river valley and from the village itself. Streets can be steep and with cobblestones (as you would expect from a village this old).
