bowness is beautifully situated along the lake, everything is so close and easy to navigate. pubs are awesome, food is generally very nice all round. the boardwalk is a cracking place to eat, upstairs if the suns shining is definitely a good shout. ferry to ambleside is a nice ride, love it all.
It was our first time staying in Bowness and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The views are outstanding and there is plenty to do in and around the town. Having only a short walk from our hotel, we explored the bars and restaurants and we were impressed at how much choice there was. We also stopped by the little Mediterranean quarter and the atmosphere was very fun and endearing. Will definitely be staying at the very picturesque Bowness On Windermere again!
Bowness is delightful with a variety of shops but primarily outdoorsy type shops. There are lots of places to eat although booking in advance does help. The streets are clean although as you'd expect very hilly and quite steep in places with narrow footpaths that can disappear. If using a wheelchair this could prove difficult to negotiate.
I could not believe how beautiful it was! The scenery is breathtaking! We took one of the river cruises to Ambleside and spent the day there looking around the town before returning later in the afternoon to Bowness to have tea at The Boat House in the beautiful harbour there which was only 10mins walk from our guest house. There is so much to see and do in the Lake District this was our first trip here, but will definitely not be our last! We’ve already decided next time to take one of the many bus tours to see further afield, they seem to run so regularly in and out of the town centre and another boat trip up the other side of Windermere. Yes would thoroughly recommend a trip here we didn’t want to go home!
Bowness-on-Windermere is in a beautiful location with so many opportunities to explore the surrounding areas. It doesn't matter if it happens to rain, just make sure you have the correct clothing with you. If you have a chance to experience a sailing and dining opportunity on Lake Windermere for either lunch or dinner do go, we had pre booked with Sail 'N' Dine on a 32 ft yacht and we really enjoyed ourselves. The owner/skipper John Haworth is a very well qualified sailor, an excellent chef and host. We first sailed to various locations then he anchored for lunch beside a lovely island for us to appreciate the activities on the Lake and countryside.
As our B & B didn't serve evening meals, they provided a list of recommended restaurants in and around Bowness and advised us to book well in advance of our arrival which was very helpful. The breakfast in the B & B was fabulous. It would have been good if they did do evening meals as we know the food would be amazing but it did make us venture into Bowness to try the local restaurants which were really good. We used Lakeside Taxis who we booked in advance and they were on time and provided a good service. We chose 5 Star Lindeth Fell Country House as a treat as we were on our honeymoon. A very special place that we will indeed return to. Lots of things to do in Bowness. A place we will most certainly return to.
The staff and owners all consistently went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, as well as to help with directions and/or recommendations for walks and restaurants in the Lake District. The breakfast was delicious and healthy, with a variety of choices, and we received very pleasant service from all involved. The hotel building was quaint and beautifully appointed and the large garden was absolutely lovely. A bonus was meeting Alfie and Rosie, the adorable and affectionate resident Border Terriers!
Bowness-on-Windermere
Breakfast was very good in terms of quality and the staff serving were pleasant and very helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent situated on Windermere lakeside close to the boat piers. The room appeared to have been partially upgraded including the en-suite, however the bed and furniture have seen better days. The shower enclosure was a little on the small side but the water pressure and temperature were both fine.
Bowness-on-Windermere
Great location, lots of space, plenty of good facilities, very clean, a real home from home! The furnishings used throughout the house were lovely, lots of space in the bedrooms and a lovely little shared yard at the rear of the house with table and chairs. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need for self catering. Great, quiet location just a short stroll from Bowness on Windermere.

The hosts Simon and Joan were great and were both very keen to ensure our stay was enjoyable. The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and the B&B itself was centrally located in Windermere. Cooked breakfast was good and included in the room rate was access to a small spa in a hotel complex nearby only a short walk away, good for those who want to also wind down in the evening.
Bowness-on-Windermere
Karol and Nigel are just out of this world. They are the perfect hosts! Everything was just top notch. A clean, spacious room and bathroom, DELICIOUS brekkie, perfect location - 5 min walk to the lake, restaurants and pubs. Even though the weather wasn't the best, we really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend and hope we're back one day in the future! Hon & Pete
