Bowness-on-Windermere was a great base to experience the wider Lakes district as it was quite central - but an interesting place in it's own right as well. There were plenty of good quality restaurants offering a variety of cuisines to suit a variety of tastes - traditional pub food, italian, indian, asian, etc. It also has the advantage of being a little smaller and quieter - so after a day of visiting the larger more bustling towns it is relaxing to come back to Bowness to relax.
Local people extremely helpful and friendly plenty of pubs, shops, restaurants, The scenery is beautiful a very relaxing place, the country walks are amazing There was to much to do in such a short stay will definitely be going back can't wait for my next visit
Attractive village with good selection of bars and restaurants. Good bus and boat connections for travel around the Central Lakes. Recommend £9.50 day ticket which allows boat cruise to Ambleside and return by 599 open top bus plus unlimited bus travel to nearby villages such as Grasmere, and Hawkshead.
Having stayed in Grange over Sands for many years, I decided to try Bowness as there are more restaurants and bars to choose from. What a great choice I made, the location is spot on as you are literally on the doorstep of all the facilities you need.
Very nice town worth a visit but would not stay for more than 3nights 2 days Since we last visited 5 years ago it seems to have been a little bit neglected by the council and needs quite a few street repairs and maintenace carrying out Overall our stay was pleasant
The staff and owners all consistently went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, as well as to help with directions and/or recommendations for walks and restaurants in the Lake District. The breakfast was delicious and healthy, with a variety of choices, and we received very pleasant service from all involved. The hotel building was quaint and beautifully appointed and the large garden was absolutely lovely. A bonus was meeting Alfie and Rosie, the adorable and affectionate resident Border Terriers!
All three rooms were excellent in size and space, and two of the rooms had a lovely balcony. The staff were friendly and approachable. The restaurant at Burn How is excellent with good variety of breakfast options. The location is superb and within easy reach of town centre as well as the lake. The free parking was just outside the front door of each room and there are two separate entrances to the hotel. There is a lovely garden at the back which allows for a gentle stroll and sitting down with a drink.
Excellent location in Bowness very close to the lake and amenities. The room was clean and very comfy, the bottles of water and Kendal mint cake were a nice touch. The staff were excellent nothing was to much to ask, with a special mention to the two lads in the Bar. The food in the restaurant was fantastic, reasonably priced and large portions. I can't speak highly enough of this hotel.
Bowness-on-Windermere

Fridge had milk, apple juice and water in. chocolates and biscuits complimented the tea coffee and hot chocolate. Easy access pin entry worked really well. Would highly recommend and communications with the owners ref parking went smoothly
Lovely hotel close to lake Windermere, comfortable rooms, wonderful decor and reminiscence of Beatrix Potter throughout. Delicious food and drinks and beautiful garden for sunny days. Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere in easy reach; ferry to Hawkshead on the west side of the lake is also close by which makes it great for day trips around the lake
Stunning hotel with great staff who were always available. Hot tub on the bacony with a fantastic view was definately a draw to the hotel. Location was fantastic and we will definately be staying here again. We were lucky enough to have fantastic weather but if we hadent the hot tub view would have sufficed haha.
very clean and comfortable hotel room with a good view of the lake. staff were friendly and efficient. parking was ample but tight for a larger vehicle like a minibus etc Bowles’s pier and town are only a short walk with everything you would need.
