The flat was very comfortable and immaculately clean, with a modern kitchen and bathroom. We cook most of our own meals and found everything we needed in the kitchen (including some really sharp knives - one of the things we often find are missing from places like this). If you don't cook, there are a few good places nearby including the fantastic Dalston Fryer. The bed was a really good size (my wife and I are both over 6') and was comfy with good linens. For the bathroom, the shower was great with good water pressure, and the towels were soft and a nice size. The windows are double glazed and it didn't take much to heat the flat. With windows to the front and back, the main kitchen/living room always felt light and airy. The flat is on the main road in the center of Dalston, but the windows really helped with any road noise. The WiFi was fast and my wife had no problem making hour long video calls for work. Finally, Kerry did a great job with instructions and we had no problem parking (free on the street outside) or doing the self check in. We found the flat to be the perfect base to explore the local area, Carlisle, the northern Lake District, and Solway, and we were very happy with our stay.

It was spacious, clean and comfortable. Although it was very close to the centre of Carlisle, it was also quiet and had a very private feel to it, probably because of its main entrance being around the back, the front entrance being closed off. Also, you enter the hotel directly from the spacious car park, and the satnav took us straight to the car park. The meals in the evening were excellent and the breakfast was great - informal friendly setting and helpful staff.

I love this hotel! I felt like I was experiencing history here. The room was small by many standards but it's been my experience that when you travel in the winter you just want to warm up as fast as possible once inside and my room was perfect. There was a large very deep tub/shower, big thick fluffy towels, coffee and tea, and more to make the room comfy but once you've had a drink in the bar, rode the original (i think) elevator, and eaten in the dining room, you'll want to explore all there is just outside the front door. Besides your everyday Sunday shops, grocery stores, and pharmacists there are indoor markets with many stores inside, specialty coffee shops with pastries and breads, charity stores, and fudge shops. This time of year they're putting up the Christmas decorations on the town square which, BTW, is right out front of the hotel. The whole thing made me feel like I'd walked into an old Christmas movie. Staff are friendly and dont mind giving you a little history lesson if you've got the time and it will include an American president (probably not the one you're thinking of). In all, I had a lovely stay at the Crown & Mitre and will go again someday.

The room was very spacious, including the ensuite bathroom. Large shower. Very appreciative of the 'goodies' left. What was very helpful, was a list of details, contact numbers etc. Not a lot of parking spots provided, but we managed to get one. We did enjoy a meal across the road in The Griffin.

There is a great boutique grocer on the way in to town. We dined at the Green Hill Inn 8 miles distant and had a wonderful dinner. The next morning, we had a short drive into the Lake District. It’s a gorgeous place in the country.

Dalston is a delightful little village just outside of Carlisle. There is a central "square" and this is where the accommodation is. There's various shops including an excellent co-op, butchers, gift shop and fish and chip shop. There used to be an excellent pub and restaurant on the square but sadly this has closed. There are also a couple of cafes. The one opposite has a Paddington bear sat outside in all weathers. You don't do that to teddy bears so I wouldn't go in! Outrageous. There is a lovely walk down by the river. You cross the road and head towards the white bridge over the river. Go past until you see a turning to the right. Carry on down there, past a large chimney and turn right again across a bridge. Then take the little path down to the path beside the river. It's a lovely walk back and only about 20 mins/half an hour.
