Bordering the Peak District, pioneering Derby was the site of the first factory during the Industrial Revolution. The city was a silk producer and a former mill forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Derwent Valley Mills, lining the Derwent River between Derby and Matlock.
Also by the river is Darley Park which hosts an annual chamber orchestra concert. The city centre arboretum was England’s first public park, and Markeaton Park in the north-west has a light railway. Nearby is the university campus and 18th-century Kedleston Hall, a Palladian-style mansion involved in filming of ‘The Duchess’.
Another royal connection is Bonnie Prince Charlie who stayed at Exeter House. A replica of his room is in Derby Museum and Art Gallery, and there is a statue of him in Cathedral Square. Opposite is the oldest pub, the Dolphin Inn, but the best nightlife is around Friar Gate.
The nearby Cathedral Quarter is full of eateries and shops, and the Westfield Centre houses big name brands. The Grade II-listed Market Hall offers a range of stalls above underground tunnels which are supposedly haunted by one of Derby’s many ghosts.
Derby County FC play at Pride Park, near the train station and several hotels with parking. Booking.com also offers cheap apartments and guest houses near East Midlands Airport.

DO NOT BOOK the Cosy house for 4 in Peach Street, Derby, the photos are very misleading. It is full of black mould.
We moved on to the Leonardo Hotel in Derby instead and are still waiting to hear back from booking.com about having the fee for staying at the Peach Street house reimbursed to us.

derby has gone right down the pan, full of druggies in town centre, seems miles behind other cities with design and planning, facilities etc. The council there must be appalling, feel sorry for people trying to ply a trade there.

Very central for the bus/coach station a couple of minutes walk and you are there. Staff very polite and well trained. Bed comfy bedding and towels spotless, chairs in the room. Good tv.
Tip, There is a little green light in bathroom, if you leave it on overnight and leave the bathroom door slightly ajar, it makes a great nightlight to see the way to the toilet in the night.
I would ask for a room nearer, but not right next to a lift.
I wish they would change the plastic key card system. Every time I have stayed This time twice, It failed to open my room door, how ever many times I tried. Even my sister tried. ( she was in the room next door ) So it meant trudging back to reception to sort it. We recently stayed in a hotel that had just a slim oblong wooden key card and it worked every time as it could not be scratched.

The cathedral was lovely, light and airy with friendly staff to welcome you. The Museum of making is worth a visit, situated at the silk mill. The history surrounding the Silk Mill was interesting. The high street in Derby is suffering with a significant amount of vacant shop premises, as are many city centres around the country.

A small city with lots of history if you know where to look.
A small city with lots of history if you know where to look. Some lovely museums and one of our favourites was Pickford's House. It's a busy city with a lot of fast traffic and roads so not too easy to get around by car if you're visiting. Nearby Darley Park is a nice area as well.

At the conference centre, All Staff were caring and considerate of all clients, regardless of needs. The hotel bedroom was deep cleaned between each client. Were willing to go that extra mile.
Will come back soon.
Derby parking restrictions in town centre made it difficult for disabled persons to drive themselves, park safely, and retain independence in areas around combined Court and water areas, etc.
Taxis had to be used from conference centre return, but drivers were a credit to Derby, kind, courteous and helpful.
The suggested car parking not easy to access and nearest was closed.
Signage was confusing to someone not familiar with Derby.
We chose to eat in the conference centre due to road congestion we noticed on way in and after going in and out by taxi. We also utilised shops for snacks while in town.

Cheap and cheerful. Needed a place to crash for an event in Derby. Parking on site was free. There was an event on the night we stayed over. Our room was right above the event and the music was loud. The staff were really helpful to move us to a quieter room on the other side of the hotel.
I always stay here if I’m in Derby. Quirky, old, well located, friendly, nice unpretentious bar downstairs, parking - and cheap. If you like a sanitised, bland, uniform and antiseptic chain hotel, this might not be for you. But I love it. Dog friendly too.
Very convenient location for Derby town centre/train station. Free parking in private car park behind the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Restaurant/bar on site. Clean rooms. Good overall value for money - recommended for short stays.
Very friendly staff and all the facilities were kept very clean. I found it good value for money compared to other hotels in Derby but it might not have been such a good deal if I hadn’t got a booking.com genius discount.
