Great location for a base, with-in easy access to all the main towns and lots of local walks . lovely steam train journey to Matlock includes return . Chatsworth house and Hadden hall with-in walking distance or a short drive.
To be honest our visit was mainly spent at other locations and attractions. Very handy for Chatsworth Estate which took all day. Unable to make any real honest observations about the village apart from its lovely location and peacefulness-which was most welcome.
A pretty village in between Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House so ideal for those who love such attractions. Two or three super pubs and a little mill craft shop and local post office. Simply a pleasant ambience in a beautiful location.
We went waling around Monsal and stopped in Bakewell for food but it was very busy. The purpose of our trip was a central meeting point were we could all meet up for my birthday as we were all coming from different locations. We ate at The Grouse and Claret, trying to accommodate 11 people for lunch was a long shot but we managed it at this establishment. got a takeaway one night but they were busy and didn't answer the phone when I rang so had to go there and wait, it was only a short distance. My daughter and husband went for a lovely walk on the Sunday morning near the river and were well impressed.
Absolutely beautiful place. However, the lack of dog friendly pubs was surprising. When you did find one, you are sent to a tiny section with a lot of other people and dogs making it less enjoyable. Very different to what was expected due to having been to many places in the UK and never experienced this.
Very quiet little village although it does have a busy road through the middle of it. Still saw dippers, grey wagtails and bats from the bridge. Handy for Peak Shopping Centre and a couple of pubs/restaurants. Great place for walking.
