Offering a restaurant and a bar, The Spinnaker Hotel is located in Gourock, 7 miles from Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park and 30 miles from Glasgow. Really lovely room with a sea view. The room was quite spacious and very comfortable. We arrived just after the kitchen had closed but the staff were kind enough to get us some dinner. The breakfast was one of the best fry ups I have ever had! Free parking available outside and not too far so that wasn't an issue. Wish we had a bit more time to spend there.
With its building over 200 years old, The Tontine Hotel is 5-minute walk to Greenock city center and to the Esplanade and has a bar and a restaurant. I have been staying at the Tontine for over 20 years and I’ve never had a bad stay. The staff is lovely. The rooms are comfortable. The food is good.
Lovely spacious grassy park next to the promenade with kids play park and outdoor gym. Great views over to Dunoon and Ben Lomond and the surrounding hills . Fantastic outdoor pool right on the water and a lovely walk/cycle along the promenade into Greenock. A lovely clean and obviously well cared for town with rail link to Glasgow and the ferry link to Dunoon. The people we met were all very friendly and helpful. We'll definitely be back again in the near future.
I enjoyed the sea air and the friendly atmosphere, I am vegan and the restaurants and cafes offered a vegan menu the food was delicious. There was plenty to do places to visit I took the ferry to Dunoon which just took 25 mins , there are parks and beaches a bus ride away, I loved Gourock and will be going back there.
Gourock is a friendly place, good location from Glasgow is 15 - 20 minute drive on the M8, or if you go South down the coastal road the scenery is splendid. We grabbed "Fish and Chips" for supper one night and parked down at the harbour watching the boats and ferries sailing past.
We stayed at the castle as a family of six. It was beautiful, comfortable, quirky, historic and relaxing all in one package. The castle is in very good condition as an historic property, and the grounds are lovely. Our hosts, Kim and Maria were very hospitable and welcoming into their home. The breakfast was hearty and tasty. As there are no other meals offered, Kim kindly arranged for a pizza delivery from Gourock and made reservations for us at the Inverkip Hotel in nearby Inverkip which served a very nice Sunday Roast. As advertised, this facility is not for those who cannot negotiate spiral staircases as the facilities are spread over four floors. Fortunately, this was not an issue for us. The Laird's Room was very spacious and luxurious. The other two rooms, while comfortable were smaller and darker with very little outside lighting. The smaller rooms had ensuites but lacked their own showers. We were very happy with the castle as we shared all the castle's facilities. And the conservatory is especially lovely for a quiet moment or social gathering in the garden. However, staying in one of the smaller rooms on one's own may not suit everyone. Overall, we would highly recommend this B&B.
Gourock is a small seaside town on the river Clyde estuary not too far from Glasgow. Public transport links to Glasgow, Paisley, Greenock, Largs and Dunoon are great i.e. train, bus and boat. It has a cafe culture, half a dozen bars, a Chinese takeaway, fish n chips and a fabulous Indian restaurant. It has an amazing heated outdoor swimming pool which is open from approx end April to September which is well worth a visit. It is a smart looking wee town which is well worth a visit or a couple of nights stay. It has a small hotel called The Spinniker and a caravan park called Cloche Caravans which is a couple of miles outside town.
We hired a car but used train in to Glasgow transport was very easy and reliable.we went on site seeing bus for Glasgow and shopping was good and had a great day there. Gourock and castle levan were a great base to explore Glasgow and that part of Scotland.
